The DC Universe has a rich history of heroes having sidekicks, they start off young, get to their late teens and if their lucky or interesting enough they avoid being killed off and make it into adulthood.

Now, so far we have received a few of these young heroes in DCUC, and I'll be using Robin as the main example here....

Now Robin was the first to be made, (followed by Kid Flash and Beast Boy), using the small male buck. Many said that this buck made the figures look to short or buff for the age they are meant to represent. Personally I think if
they are used for the first version of these characters, then it's a fine height, but I would recommend tooling some less bulging biceps for it, as thats the one part of the sculpt that throws out the young look and makes them look 'roided up'.

The young buck should be used for the early male Titans, it works and gives us these characters as the kids they were when first on the scene.

Here are examples of how Robin should be done in DCUC (the brilliant customs in images A - D are by Lesternessman, and are spot on)

Now picture A shows a young Dick Grayson Robin, made from the small buck, and this is what is needed.

Picture B shows a young Tim Drake Robin in his original costume, again made from the small buck, and is what I hope we will get in a wave, instead of the cheap repaint that was in the recent 2 pack.

Picture C shows a late teen pre-Nightwing Dick Grayson Robin, made using the Sinestro, and now Superboy and Kamandi buck. This is a version I hope we will also see, as it would give us a start on the Perez era New Teen Titans, and fits better with the DCUC Cyborg and Starfire. Also, it appears that with Wonder Girl in wave 13, you are working to get this version of the group together.

Picture D shows a Tim Drake Robin custom in his original costume, and the wave 3 figure that it was made from. This image is here to illustrate the height issue, as the red Robin, or One Year Later outfit should not have been used on the small buck.

The following image is of a brilliant custom by BuzzyFrett, it shows that as this is the more recent, older Tim Drake outfit, it should be redone on the newer late teen (SInestro) buck.
Image

Now the problem is, if you make these characters in the wrong size for the period they are meant to represent, we are going to have to have them done again or settle for a mish mash of out of scale figures. The upcoming Reign of the Supermen Superboy in wave 13, should have used the small buck, as this was his first appearance and he would need to fit in with an original costume Tim Drake and Impulse(when you get to making him) for a Young Justice line up. But as it stands, he looks like he will be towering over them.

Please can you get the use of the bucks you have right for the characters!!

Yup. If Mattel gave us "C", I would consider going back to collecting this line and all the hassles that... it... the whole thing, implies.

Not a fan of the classic C Robin, but it's wonderful.

I would love to have B Robin. That's what Mattel should have made first instead of him in his red costume. Mattel probably figured it'd be cheaper to produce and went cheap cheap cheap.

E is a fantastic improvement and A would be nice but the shoes are weird.

You guys get way too worried about scale.

Except for Sinestro, I don't really have any problems with the scales Mattel has chosen. Just put Nightwing in with the Titans and the problem is solved.

Man, some of you are just NEVER satisfied.

Maybe it's because I lived through the 80's versions of most of these lines, and those awful 90's Toybiz versions of superheroes, but I'm no where near as picky.

I'd really like to see that E Robin pictured with the new TRU Batman. It would look much better with that one than with the blue version.

You had me right up to the end.

I completely agree about the different bodies being used appropriately for early teens and late teens on Robin, Beast Boy, and the others. They've messed up so far by using late teen costumes on the smaller bodies.

But they're doing Superboy right. Superboy broke out of cadmus in his mid-teens and his age is locked in as a mid-to-late teenager. He's only ever been about 5' 7" - which makes the Sinestro buck just a smidge too tall but still great. I was ready to go into rant mode if they made him using anything but the Sinestro buck!

I do agree that this will make him taller than some of the other YJ members, but the way I see it - if the artists were drawing him younger/shorter in YJ, then they were doing so incorrectly and the toys shouldn't reflect that error.

I lived through the 80s and 90s lines and I'm a bit picky about scale.

It still bothers me that DCUC's Captain Cold, Sinestro, Big Barda and Starfire are all TOO SMALL while Nightwing and the upcoming Superboy are far too big. They don't have to be super accurate but man, these are way off.

JLU scale is also all over the place but I'm kinda okay with that. But DCUC needs some help before it gets out of hand.

The only figure I see out of scale is Lobo, Kid Flash will be ok if we get the og TT all in the same scale. and I'm not big Sinestro fan, so I'm ok with him, it's way too many other characters I wanna see before they do Sinestro again. BTW I like that A Robin

I'm glad you guys agree about the scale, and yeah, the work on those customs by those guys is outstanding, it's just a shame that we haven't had the equivalent in the actual line.

I should have mentioned as well, if they do make a Robin as shown in the C picture, I hope they also use that late teen buck to give us a disco collar Nightwing. As he would still be that size when he switched costumes, (see next image)

Count me in the group who would never touch a disco Nightwing figure.
