I would like to ask all to hold their vote on the Golden Age Atom. I still think that DC Direct's version of the GA Atom 2-pack works so well look and scale wise with the DCUC. I would just like to see others made first.

You can ask but at least in my case you shall not receive. Just finished voting for him. Sorry, but Al Pratt was one of my favorite Golden Age characters, and I'd love to see him included in the line.

Should be a fun vote this year, at least in my opinion. Thanks for organizing everything Superfly!

That was fun! AS far as the heroes went, mostly I went with the GA/BA characters first, and picked whatever MA versions I liked best, based on what I had left. The villains were the hardest. So under-represented.

As far as Al Pratt goes, everyone should be aware that the Golden Age Atom is actually a five-foot tall heavily-muscled dude, and not some tiny pixie or hobbit with Lou Reed's face, as DCD would have us believe.

I appreciate your fervor, but not only are those Atoms NOT to scale, they're also terrible figures to boot. Let's do everything we can to find out what Mattel can deliver, shall we?

not necessarily a scoop; SDcomics report from SDCC stated that the 4H have these two characters already sculpted and waiting on Mattel for the 'go-ahead'.

good points, all. I suppose we could consider some "locks" and remove them from the list, like Jay Garrick and the already-sculpted Hourman and Doc Mid-nite. I was thinking the same for Hawkman when I left him off, but maybe I need to look at it again...
I dunno Fly. Can any of them really be considered "locks"? We don't want to give the impression we don't want them. Just because they have been said to be coming, until you see pictures I'm hesitant for you not to include them. I know they're different lines, but take JLU. Firefly & Dr Destiny showed up on ebay. Signalman & Cyborg Superman were on the leaked list. And ToyGuru himself said they would do the CSA version of Owlman. Yet none of them have been what I call confirmed - pictures of the figure with a wave assigned from ToyGuru or Matty.

I'm not saying DON'T exclude them, just use caution if you do.

I'm beginning to notice that characters are either very highly demanded or they are a very mixed bag. It's quite a big disparity in most of those brackets.

Me thinks this bracketing won't be interesting until we get to the quarterfinals or maybe even the finals themselves.

Okay, here are the way some numbers break out. (Don't ask me why I did this, because I honestly have a life...really I do.) Of the total list 19.4% are female characters with 80.6% male. Not surprising given a lot of these characters go back to the Golden Age and comics have traditionally been male-heavy in characters. But I found this interesting:

The top vote getter was Stargirl with 117 votes. Of the Top 20, seven were female characters or 35%. I've long been of the opinion that Mattel does not make enough female figures to match interest and I think these numbers support that assertion.

There were also seven villains in the Top 20. I also think Mattel has not been making enough bad guys in their waves. The top villain was Vandal Savage at 112 votes.

It seems very unlikely a Libertine or King Chimera figure will be made by Mattel, as they only got 10 and 12 votes, respectively, and hit the bottom two slots.

Thanks for the statistical breakdown brenticles. Your stats helped substantiate what I already knew. That is, despite Mattel's somewhat misogynistic attitude towards making female characters, there is a market out there for them. The villains absolutely have to be cranked out in larger numbers. They could pretty much do 2 complete villain waves in a row (a la Marvel Legends Onslaught wave), and still have a lot of catching up to do. Besides, who are the good guys supposed to beat up on?

Well, if I do recall my Silver Age correctly, they did spend a lot of time beating up on each other!

I don't foresee villain or female dominated waves in the future. That would require a massive paradigm shift in the action figure philosophy of both toy companies and (more importantly) toy retailers.

What Walmart et al want, Walmart et al get.
