I was wondering, when Mattel finally ends MOTU Classics on Matty Collector, what good will that site be?

I've been wondering that for awhile now. They're not going to have much left to sell on there, especially on a monthly basis. Kind of makes the website pointless by the time 2016 rolls around.

DCUC is done. Ghostbusters is done. And next year, MOTUC. Those are the 3 main toy lines they have listed on their shop page. Eventually they're going to run out of old leftover figures from those lines to sell on the website.

I could see them downsizing and probably being annexed into MattelShop as a sort of collector sub-site. You know, higher-end Barbies, Total Heroes Ultra figures, con exclusives, that sort of thing.

On the other hand, they might phase out the "shop" aspect of the site altogether and simply rebrand themselves into a news and schmooze site for consumers to communicate with Mattel and vice-versa.

Of course, what I would like to see is Matty being shut-down, never to be heard from again, and Mattel rededicate themselves solely to retail where their efforts belong.

The only downside to Mattycollector going away is that it may become much more difficult to acquire Mattel's SDCC exclusives each year for those of us who don't attend SDCC. Then again, they may end up not having any SDCC exclusives worth getting. There's nothing this year that interests me.

Maybe they'll post those JLU interviews that don't really exist

Transfer Toyguru to the retail division so he can run THAT into the ground . . . again.

Their retail lines are already doing just fine at running into the ground without his help. :)

The only argument that can be made against that is that the retail lines are still going. :D

I always thought it was a dumb move to have Mattycollector rely so heavily on MOTU. I honestly can't wait to hear the SDCC comments from ToyGuru this year.

You know, gems like:

"There was just not enough fan interest in ANYTHING WE OFFER to continue (insert toy line here)".

or

"Adult collectors turned out to be loud but not numerous".

Bless his incompetent little heart, you'd think with a handle like Toyguru he could come up with at least a couple of fresh excuses.

As is, he's like a comedian with only one tired old joke.

Maybe he should change his handle to "Larry, the Toy Guy."

Nope-- they will stay right where they are at Barbie Collector.com -- with their 7500 person exclusive fan club.. -- the site has mainstream collector dolls, plus the expensive online and club exclusives..

So you're saying it's the website Matty WISHES they were.
