With many incomplete waves, I've already begun to be more picky. Going forward in 2011, I'm sticking with Batman, Superman, GL <but on the fence about the skittles>, and Super Powers characters. And if I feel like it, JSA. I want to get the LoSH set, but price might be an issue on that one. I should just start saving now :)

Superfly is nuts. No doubting that, regardless of this thread.

The key is whether or not Mattel renews the deal with DC and when that happens. If it happens before any particular wave, or consecutive waves, tanks, then I see no reasons to worry. I think they will sign another deal, and I think DCUC will keep going for another 5+ years. But that's probably just my wishful thinking talking.

I have a feeling that this was already done, very quietly. They no longer refer to their "five year plan" that they did in the beginning, and (it seems) they're veering from it pretty heavily at this point. I'm confident that DC is pleased with the way that the characters are being treated in toy form over at Mattel - you know, since Mattel is actually making DC characters, unlike a previous license-holder that shall remain nameless - so I can't see why they wouldn't renew it with the biggest toymaker in the world.

Despite their handling of the DC characters when last they had them, I would love to see Hasbro get those rights back with their current approach to licensed properties.

Most of the original points don't worry me too much. There's always going to be some waves that don't appeal to alot of the general collectors. But I can't help that think the skittles wave will do okay at retail. Even with the different outfits, it's still characters that are more well known. And a couple of the designs are just incredibly well done (Luthor & Scarecrow).

What worries me more is the rumored mandate regarding their current costumes. If someone makes a bad design, it's a bad design. Period. But if this mandate is true, it won't matter. Mattel won't have any choice but to run with it. Definitely a concern.

I seem to remember Toyguru debunking the rumor of the mandate earlier in the month. Perhaps on the Matty Collector forums....

More like FIVE themed waves in a row, not just two.

Wave 16: Batman and Friends
Wave 17: Skittles Bite-Sized Candies
Wave 18: Super Powers/Super Friends
Wave 19: JSA Golden Age
Wave 20: Blackest Night/GL Classics rejects

I wonder if Wave 21 will be that rumored Superman-themed wave with C&C Doomsday.

I want my CnC Doomsday, and I want my Jason Todd Red Hood figure. DANG IT!

Four Horseman still doing them with same configuration? I absolutely hated the marvel legends figures.

I agree. I bought a few ML figures for their heads for custom purposes, and those joints were/are absolutely awful. They look like marionettes. Hopefully, if/when the license goes somewhere else, they can take the 4H style - if not the 4H themselves - with it.

To each their own. i'm with you, I hated those joints.

Superfly, I think you will be happily surprised when the 2011 SDCC exclusive is revealed. :D

My comment was a general response to the matter of the license. I couldn't care less about the 6" line, the boring, generic Four Horsemen sculpts, or anything Mattel has produced to this point. I want a DC version of Hasbro's Marvel Universe line, and Mattel doesn't seem capable of getting anywhere close to that. I've enjoyed their cheap, cutesy line of animated-style figures over the years, but I'd like to see the DC license in the hands of a company that produces topnotch action figures.

I've always hated Marvel Legends, regardless of which company was manufacturing them.

Ditto on a Hasbro DC Universe version of their MU line. That would kick all kinds of @ss!

However, I feel I must defend Marvel Legends. It was an awesome line and still the greatest Marvel toyline ever, although give MU another couple years and it will supplant it. And I'm fairly confident that without ML being the big success it was, we would never have had DCUC.

What jumps out to you about the (roughly) 4 inch figures? What is so great about the Marvel Universe line? They are superior to the IH line, but those hasbro's figures don't look all that great. I don't consider Hasbro top notch for those figures. I have a few, they just don't do it for me. Maybe on the larger scale they are awesome. I don't know. I personally hated the 6 inch marvel legends figures, and since I'm not a full fledged Marvel Guy I didn't buy many of those. I've picked up few of the Marvel Universe figures...I just hate that articulation (yes, I know that's a personal preference thing.) On top of that, the few I do own, are kind of crappy figures all around.

If I understand you correctly, you don't care so much about who is making them, as much as you want them in a certain size to your liking, correct? You just think (and I'm not disagreeing on the 4 inch size) that Hasbro is the way to go?
