As I understand it, DC Direct were the ones that actually created the molds for the first 7 Justice League figures. If so I can't really blame Mattel for this but then maybe I'm totally wrong about the origins of those sculpts but anyhow... Why did they ever sculpt some of those details on the figures in the first place? It's one thing to sculpt a belt on Superman by why sculpt the symbol on his chest? Same thing with GL. Sculpt the arm bands not the emblem on his chest! Even if they never intended to reuse these sculpts it just seems like a lot of unnecessary work for something they could have just painted on anyways.

I would say that the etched lines were just the sculptor's take on the designs, probably done just since she (I *think* it was Karen Plinko - spelling? - who sculpted those for DCD along with the maquettes which also have the etching) wouldn't be working with color. Gotta remember, when the line was sculpted there were only the seven heroes and there wasn't a thought about a need to use the bodies for other characters. Weren't Etrigan, Metamorpho and Dr. Fate the only other heroes seen in the first two years besides Aquaman who did get his own sculpt?
As for Batman, I have to ask what etching? I just checked my first-run JL figure to make sure that I wasn't mistaken but that mold (like Flash) has never had an etched emblem.

That's something else I never understood though either. Why did they sculpt GL & Superman's symbols but not Batman and The Flash's?

Can some post a link to see these sculpts? It's tough to participate when the images aren't readily available.

Maybe I just can't tell from the pictures, but these look like simple re-paints. What makes anyone think these are new sculpts?

That's Power Ring from the Crime Syndicate. LONG story short: an evil version of the JLA from a parallel Earth.

tanglevine wrote: Maybe I just can't tell from the pictures, but these look like simple re-paints. What makes anyone think these are new sculpts? The difference is that the original Batman had lines (actual grooves) sculpted into arms to show where his gloves began. Same for his boots. Green Lantern had lines sculpted on his legs to show where his boots began too. He also had a groove on his chest to divide the upper green portion from the lower black portion. Now all of the lines have been removed. tuning4k wrote: That's Power Ring from the Crime Syndicate. LONG story short: an evil version of the JLA from a parallel Earth. I think he was being sarcastic folks
