Wow.
I can't fathom how THIS wave is supposed to be the retail wave.
Looking at the choices...
Larfreeze - Atrocitus would have been a better choice. He's starring in the new Animated Series.
Superboy Prime - I get the argument that retailers would like to see a new Superman but there are like three or four new Superman related figure in the DCNU.
Batman Beyond - Maybe they just wanted to re-release this one?
Plastic Man - I don't know who this is supposed to appeal to. This version lasted all of three issues? In one of Flaspoint's least popular books? In a storyline now almost forgotten? While we're waiting for Elongated Man!?
Actually, Plastic Man is the big disappointment here. If they had a bigger surprise in his place, this wave would look so much stronger.
Think about it. How would we be reacting to...
*this isn't a wish list but rather an attempt to show how a simple choice could makes a huge difference...
Larfreeze, Superboy Prime, Batmam Beyond re-issue and...DCNU Superman Larfreeze, Superboy Prime, Batmam Beyond re-issue and...DCNU Wonder Woman Larfreeze, Superboy Prime, Batmam Beyond re-issue and...DCNU Hawkman Larfreeze, Superboy Prime, Batmam Beyond re-issue and...DCNU Static
Or some villains from the upcoming JL: Doom animated movie...(but in their classic uniforms)
Larfreeze, Superboy Prime, Batmam Beyond re-issue and...Mirror Master Larfreeze, Superboy Prime, Batmam Beyond re-issue and...Vandal Savage Larfreeze, Superboy Prime, Batmam Beyond re-issue and...Metallo (classic)
Or just some classic villains... Larfreeze, Superboy Prime, Batmam Beyond re-issue and...Evil Star Larfreeze, Superboy Prime, Batmam Beyond re-issue and...Granny Goodness Larfreeze, Superboy Prime, Batmam Beyond re-issue and...Dr. Light Larfreeze, Superboy Prime, Batmam Beyond re-issue and...Felix Faust
Or some fan requested characters Larfreeze, Superboy Prime, Batmam Beyond re-issue and...Huntress Larfreeze, Superboy Prime, Batmam Beyond re-issue and...Rocket Red Larfreeze, Superboy Prime, Batmam Beyond re-issue and...Wally West Flash Larfreeze, Superboy Prime, Batmam Beyond re-issue and...Jay Garrick Flash (yeah, I know he's in the DC Sub program but this is just to prove a point)
And if you take any of the lists here and replace the Batman Beyond figure with a Batman Classics repainted to look like...Flashpoint Batman (even with the wrong cape... you'll still get a stronger wave.

http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/sear ... +all+stars$19 for singles and $70 for a set of 4!?! DCUC20 is only $16.99 a figure on the same sight and DCUC20 has a CnC. How in the world does mattel think these figures will sell at that price?! I mean the damn YJ 6" are only $20-$22 and they come with a base and bunch of stuff.

Now they want to give us less and have us pay more (If the above is true). That's great, but they won't be getting my money.

Please keep in mind that this is BBTS's pricing, and not actual retail. That said, I still see a price increase coming. I hope I'm wrong.

I hope I'm wrong. yes that is BBTS pricing, but BBTS also has wave 20 at $16.99 for singles with a CnC piece, so even if they are higher then retail, its looking like All Stars will be more then DCUC with less in the package. plus how are they going to complete with ML being $15 with a CnC. I hope Im wrong, but I m starting to smell the death of Mattel 6" dc comic figures. Mattel will make their DC money on movie stuff and little kid toys. sigh

It used to be almost worth it if you wanted the CnC figure, but now if you just want a loose one it's cheaper to buy it from Asia.

To be fair, Mattel did not set that price. BBTS did.
BBTS could just be testing the price increase to see what the market will bear. If the price comes down or the figures are discounted in a few months, we'll know the price was too high.
I pay about that much for DCUC figures in NYC, so the price doesn't seem that high to me.

fball13z wrote: you pay that much for DCUC, that comes with pieces to build a 9"+ extra figure Yeah, I know that. I really like the DCUC figures, and that price is fair to me. Plus, I get them from my LCS, which charges more, but I like spending my money at local businesses. And I don't have to waste time or money on "the hunt." But I don't mean to suggest the price increase might not be fair to others, especially those who have been paying less for a while now. It can be a shock. Joe G. wrote: According to the BBTS email I got, the MSRP for the set of 4 figures was $79.99, or basically $20 per figure. S=suggested Honestly, I'm not taking sides here or saying that the price increase is warranted. My point is that if other collectors are willing to pay that price, it will become the market standard. But I have a feeling the price increase will not stick.

I'm usually big supporter of Mattel but in this case this is going to flop. They raise the price yet remove the CnC piece thus making it easy for people to pass on figures they do not want? Bad business decision imo.

$19 is way to much money for these figures.

This ridiculous price increase combined with the horrible character selection for wave 1 is going to kill this line fast. If that's the MSRP, then these figures will be warming pegs for a year at every retail outlet, more so than Green Lantern crap or Young Justice. Ugh. It's like Mattel WANTS to kill this line.

Without a C&C piece there's no incentive not to buy them loose from Asia. It's a no-brainer for me. I seriously doubt the packaging will be that spectacular to warrant a $20 pricetag.
