Quote: Critical Mess: 4. When the sub was announced the collector fanbase was told that one criteria for the sub was fan-demanded characters that might not fare well at retail. Atrocitus was announced as one of the sub figures. But then Larfleeze was recently announced as a RETAIL figure. As these are both new Green Lantern characters with similar amount of fan recognition, so can you explain why Larfleeze is deemed appropriate for retail when Atrocitus is not? It seems somewhat arbitrary.
Mattel: There are some figures such as Larfleeze and Atrocitus that could easily fit into either line. As a collector, you'll find characters in both lines that you're sure to love! Translation: There is no logic as to which one the characters appear in. Which goes along with making Adam Strange an on line character for DCUC because it would have sold as well at retail as many of the others. And making the JLU Batman villains on line when they probably would have sold well at retail. Conclusion: The ONLY point of online figures is to sell more of them to us in the same time frame.

I don't have a problem with that.
At least now I don't have to hit the stores in vain searches for Wave ____ anymore.

I don't care how much chatter it generates now, Mattel isn't going to do it. But... but... but... They already HAVE done it!!!

Yeah, but that offer is tied to TRU. I don't think Mattel has done any such offers for any other retailer (or one open to all retailers). I've gotten two of the ones done for Cars and the real reason that they do them is to move stagnant stock quickly. The offers only seem to be available when pegs are clogged with old merchandise and there is a very short time frame to redeem them (and, unlike Hasbro, you have to log-in to Matty and fill out your forms and make your payment for shipping and handling online then print out the form and ship it with the proofs and receipts). Also note that the top of the ad says "Any 4 WWE figures" but at the bottom it specifies the four assortments that they'll accept proofs from and it excludes the basic figures at that point (if the basics had been included I would've bought four for McMahon). I don't like the hoops you have to jump through for Mattel's redemptions and it would most certainly leave international collectors relying on us to help them out.

I think the mail-away JLU idea is terrible and would suck for collectors. But I would personally benefit from it. I both open my figures AND save the packages. If they did that offer I'd most likely be getting all of those figures for free plus shipping.
But it would suck for other people so I seriously hope they don't do that.

Just to clarify, some one asked if Mattel would do a promotion for a Mail Away exclusive figure, using Clark Kent in the SP line as an example.
Mattel gave a non-answer, and then someone here suggested using it for JLU.
Everyone since then seems to think that the idea was for JLU and JLU alone and the conversation is getting very skewed that way.
This isn't a JLU promotion. It isn't an idea to make everyone root through the trash and recycle bins looking for UPC codes from figures they bought 4 years ago.
Its an idea to get another new figure into fans hands through a traditional and fun method.
now back to your regularly scheduled ranting ....

And just as a precaution-- everyone who ordered in the group buy will now be receiving their figures with the UPCs cut out--

Mattel did a UPC mail away back for the MOTU 200X line, thats how you got mossman, I always like those mail away ideas. Hasbro does it a lot. Adds a little more value to buying figures.

UPC mail-away offers are used as an incentive to get customers to buy more figures at retail. However, JLU is no longer available at retail.
And why bother making collectors jump through extra hoops to get the remaining JLU figures when Mattel could just sell them on MattyCollector.com? Isn't dealing with Digital River hard enough?
