I started collecting the new MOTUC (again) about a year ago. So far so good, almost have everybody. I love the concept stuff, Vikor, Demo Man,etc. I love the original line up. He-Man, Beast Man, Skeletor, etc. But I notice that some characters pull away a little too much from the Sci Fi/Barbarian feel, almost too campy.
Even Mekaneck, who I love, is a little bit of a shark jumper. Who else? Where did this split begin? Snout Spout? Man-E-Faces? Clawful?
Which characters to you, are a little too far out there?

While I still buy almost all of them for the new line, the only one that's too far out there for me, so far, is Snout Spout.

You know Jzachery I started really collecting the line late last year although I picked up a figure here and there since they started the Classics line and I think for me personally the figures like Fearless Photog or even the Geoff Johns inspired Sir Laserlot are the ones that pulled a Fonzi. I'm cool with the classic (no pun intended) ones like Snout Spout or Mekanek. That's the thing thats cheesy cool to me about the Masters these half man half animal characters.

I'd rather they use the spots that they used for these characters (Photog, Mighty Spector, Sir Laserlot) for old school characters like Mekanek or Ram Man or even Extendor.

You do know that figures like Laserlot, Photog, and Spector aren't taking up any "spots" in the MOTUC sub. They are a separate line, with a separate sub.

If they weren't going to make those figures there is no indication that they would be making anything else to take their places.

to get back on topic...

I can't see any figure in the realm of MOTUC as being a "jump the shark" type figure. The whole concept is so bat$h!+ crazy that pretty much EVERYTHING would be considered "jumping the shark" in any other property. That is why it works so well.

Leech, Snout Spout, Photog, and Rio Blast (that was his name, rigth?) were the beginning of the end.

The Rock Lords were well past it.

I think the line became that, but didn't start off that way. Sure, you had Mer-Man, and Beast-Man, but I think eventually they just took anything, and turned it into a figure. Sometimes it was clever, and sometimes it was a head-scratcher.
While I think they took some characters too far, I think the line stayed pretty cool right up til the end. Rio Blast was a figure I never really understood. So I'm looking forward to them making him cool.

Snout Spout was one of my favorite figures as a kid. The actions features made the toys fun for me. It makes me wonder what features the 30th Anniv figures would have had if they were produced in the 80s. So other than what Mattel considers to be their "cool" designs, what would have made them fun for a kid?

I have to agree with bnjmnrlyr. The whole line is nutty. The original PITCH concept figures were a barbarian, a barbarian space man and a guy with a tank for his head! There's nothing too nutty for MOTU

I suppose when they release "Sharkor - the Shark who can Jump" we'll have our answer.

They could probably just repaint Shark from the DCUC line. :)

And that is why I LOVE MOTU!

No matter how odd or strange you it can fit in, its one of the reasons I have no idea why people hate the Mighty Spector (other then their personal feelings on TG), why cant a super hero time travel fit in a line with a cyborg cowboy and all the other MOTU goodness

I love MOTU, but never do I take it too seriously. I want it to be more than just a knock off of Conan, and the goofy characters like Snout Spout and Photog make it just so. The whole thing screams of "camp" and I love it just like that

Well there was the Land Shark Vehicle-- (which is awesome in its purple and blue glory)-- which I'm sure was jumped by something (maybe the Bashasaurus) in the old commercials for the toys..)

Personally I felt figures like Randor and Prince Adma jumped the shark-- because if they didnt have some goofy tie in to an Animal or an oversized appendage-- what were they doing in the MOTU 'verse.
