Back to the Future Hover Board
Finally! This totally awesome 1:1 replica of the hover board from the BTTF 2 and BTTF 3 films includes multiple whooshing sounds and will glide over most surfaces (does not actually "hover" – check back in 2015 for that feature). We'll be taking orders for it March 1 – March 20, 2012, and the final product will be shipped around November/December 2012. Because this is such a high-cost item, there will be a minimum number of orders required to go into production. If we don't receive the minimum orders, won't go into production and customers will not be charged. The price will be announced later this month. (Note: Hover board does not work on water.)
Back to the Future at MattyCollector.com
•BTTF Prop Replica Hover Board: Available for pre-order March 1 – March 20, 2012, and shipping November/December 2012 (subject to receiving minimum number of orders; price to be announced in February)

Just wish I had a pair of those Nike replica future shoes that were sold in the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's auction last year. Don't see why Nike couldn't produce a larger quantity of those for all the BTTF fans that want them, rather than a tiny number just for a charity auction. They go for anywhere between $1000-$5000 from what I heard. It would make a nice companion piece to this hoverboard though.

Depending on the price, I'll be getting one for my son.
Pink is his favorite color and he thinks the scene where Marty tries to skate over the pond is hysterical.
This has WIN written all over it.

This has WIN written all over it. It's got Mattel written all over it too haha. I'll be very interested to see the price on this.

Forget which site I saw it on-- But estimates were around 120-125.

If memory serves, this is the first Matty offering that requires 'X' amount of pre-orders in oder for production to move forward. Why can't they do this for all Matty exclusive product?
Anyway, I might be interested in getting one. $125, while pricey, sounds about accurate for something of this nature.
Was the Hoverboard the only BTTF item spoken of or shown at Toy Fair?

The BTTF fanbase is pretty hardcore, and an accurate Mattel-made hoverboard has been desired by a lot of people for over 20 years now. I think they'll hit the minimum needed without much trouble.

Was the Hoverboard the only BTTF item spoken of or shown at Toy Fair? It's not the first. They did it with Club IE and I think they even did it with MOTUC at one point.

I meant that it is the first Matty single item to have a pre-sales quota on it. Club IH and MOTU were on a figure group basis, right?

Actually, this is basically a "beginner level", Target/Walmart snowboard sled with skid plates on the bottom and a fancy paint job. If you were to remove the electronic sound feature, it could retail in the $20-40 range with all the other sleds and snow toys. Not that I'm knocking it. I expect the price point to be in the $125-150 range by the time it is all said and done, and, right now, I am seriously considering getting one, but again, there are other ways to get this out to market besides as a high end collectible.

Surprised nobody has posted about this yet. The Hoverboard prop replica is now on sale, and during this pre-order period from 3/1-3/20 it comes with an exclusive 6" version of the hoverboard too... which suggests Mattel may finally be planning a 6" BTTF figure line to eventually go with it! http://www.mattycollector.com/store/mat ... .247060500
