They're both canceled lines. You wanna say theres more coming? Go ahead. Doesn't change the fact......they're canceled!

I'm done with this stupid argument now.

Cancelled is different from not still going. Glad you realize that now. Those lines are in fact cancelled.

Regardless, your original argument still doesn't work. They've had one non-movie DC line fail recently and that was YJ.

Id glady watch season 2 if they ever freaking released it-- its like WB animation just decided to stop releasing all their shows (that came out roughly the time of Tiny Toons-- which also never finished seeing production...

Im hoping it shows up on the Warner Archive at some point, I mean I did get Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch that way..

Well what about the Thor line? That was a bust.
Cap did okay I think.
Iron Man 2 seemed to do well for a while but there was just too much old stock.
The Pirates line was a fail.
Tron failed.
Thundercats is dying.
GI Joe has had horrible distribution the past year.

A lot of these lines I liked, too, even with their flaws. It's hard to think of any action figure line that has been a success lately.
Is Star Wars still strong? The WWE line (even though the Legends series sadly ended)?

And the stuff I can think of that is doing well aren't even action figures - Skylanders, Bakugan, whatever.

a toyline can not fail if it never makes it the shelf, they didnt get the interest they wanted in the line, so they decided not to move forward.

That is not failing, that is making a good business choice.

I'd argue DC Retro action and Ghostbusters did not meet expectations for either Mattel nor the consumer

At least Hasbro had the foresight to make those figures compatible with their other 3.75 lines. So Thor, Cap or Iron Man figures that failed to make it to retail, won't be total loses on account that they can be rebranded as Avenger or Marvel Universe figures.

If Mattel had had the foresight to make the Animated Green Lantern figures in scale with their JLU counterparts, I'm sure the Timmverse fans would have no problem rallying behind the line and clamoring for its release after JLU is done. But the way things currently stand... the JLU crowd is not interested. The YJ & DCIH crowd want their own set of unproduced figures released. And I don't know that there ever was a Green Lantern Movie crowd to begin with.

Moral of the story... Better planing reduces wasteful spending.

Quoted for truth.

Its a painful lesson that pretty much NO bureaucracy (or larger corporate entity) will ever learn ...

Yes, you've convinced me. A return on investment of 0% is always a good business choice. And not being able to sell a line that is ready to go into production, is never seen by corporate executives, accountants, brand managers or investors as a fail. You are right.

LOL you think b/c they showed something at a show, its ready to go into production?

I guess you havent been collecting toys very long, I cant count how many toys ive seen at shows that never went into production.

Half the time they put stuff out at shows to see what kind of interest it gets. From end users and retail stores.

Mattel's net income was $684 Million last year. I'm so sure a few thousand or more spent on Voltron Force is going to break them

That being said Mattel's profits were down 53% from last year in the first quarter so I can see whey they are cutting back on some of the lines not producing.
