Well, it's probably a foregone conclusion that Mattel will handle all DC toy lines for the next few years. They just renewed their contract, but I forget how long it's good for. But. If Mattel were smart (ahem), they'd copy Hasbro's model outright by releasing movie figures with much-needed comic accurate figures. For every Rock Black Adam, put in a comic accurate, DCUC Sivana...or whatever.

A little premature. A SHAZAM! movie has been "confirmed" so many times over the years its not even funny. And yes, a few of those times, the Rock was attached.

Until something concrete comes along, this one goes in the "I'll believe it when they roll film" column.

It is an "officially confirmed" casting as of this past Monday.

But, If I remember correctly, it isn't slated to hit theatres until 2018 or so ...

Yeah, this conversation is VERY premature.

That's the thing, it's always official. This writer has been attached, that director has signed on, such and such actor has been confirmed. It stays "officially confirmed" for a few months then fades away to be resurrected a few years down the line.

Found this article online, which says that the Shazam! movie won't take place in the Superman/Justice League Universe. It also says that it's a New Line movie and not a proper WB movie. So yeah... I guess this still falls under the realm of "maybe". Same as the Pete Segal Shazam movie, which was followed by the John August Shazam movie, and later replaced with the Geoff Johns Shazam movie.

If they were smart, they'd make it an animated/CGI movie. The Shazam property just won't translate as well if they choose to do it live action. This should be geared towards kids. It will be a huge wasted opportunity IMO.

And The Rock is just as bad casting as Ryan Reynolds was for Hal Jordan.

Oddly enough, I think the Rock would've made a much better Captain Marvel. Obviously, he has the physique for it, but you combine that with his screen presence and acting style, and he just seems like what an adolescent male child would imagine as the "perfect super-hero." That's key for a Shazam! movie.

It would also have to be a family friendly film along the lines of Journey 2 and the like.

If Matty release a collector 6 inch figure(s) I would buy it for sure.

With the poor performance of Man of Steel figures, and before that with the Green Lantern figures, I would think retail would be wary of any future DC comic book movie figure line.

When has retail ever been conservative with any movie based toy line?

If these get made, there will be metric tons of the first wave everywhere with no chance of finding wave 2. Same as every other "movie" toy line.

I dunno, the later Man of Steel Movie Master figures weren't that hard to find at retail (at least around here) nor were most of the Dark Knight Rises (Alfred, Gordon and Blake not so much...). As long as they have some sort of plan to mix things up quickly with assortments it shouldn't be too bad.

That's a BIG if. DC really took a bath on those GL movie masters. That's probably gonna make them think long and hard before they run more plastic on a "B-lister."

For some reason they go "all in" on the Happy-Meal versions of the toys, but leave big ticket items and collector series out of the picture. Case in point, most retailers opted out of this year's X-Men Legends line and last year's The Wolverine Legends (forcing that last one to become a Diamond Exclussive.) This year, they were kinda conservative when it came to Guardians of The Galaxy Legends, but in my mind, they still went a little bit overboard on the 3 inch series and the 12 inch dolls.

Hasbro chose not to offer a 3.75" Guardians of the Galaxy line, pissing off many fans in the process, because all their previous Marvel lines in that scale have pegwarmed big time (Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, etc.) and I guess the retailers weren't going to put up with it anymore. So sadly people have to settle for this stupid new 2" scale economy sized line, which I don't think is selling very well either even though they are cheaper in price.

So there's a good example of a company recently being conservative with a movie line. I loved the movie though and would have liked to get a full set of the main characters in the 3.75" scale. I caved in and bought the full 6" Marvel Legends set of GOTG figures though.
