I could just see someone buying a $100 gift cert and then being told later that they couldn't use it to pay for the sub ....

Its a good idea, but totally inappropriate for the format of the site.

Whaaat!? Did you guys see this part at the bottom? -
"IMPORTANT NOTE: Entire Gift Certificate must be spent in a single transaction. The remaining balance cannot be accrued."
WTF?

That $100 gift certificate would have been worthless to me. I've bought over $100 of merchandise on Matty before but not at once. Even the $50 one wouldn't have been a good idea. You'd probably be best to buy multiple $25 certificates than just one $50 or one $100 certificate.

If you hadn't figured it out before now, gift cards are meant to screw you over plain and simple.
The results are rigged that it always works out in favor of the issuer and left over balances go back to them
at a certain point or you must use it all in one go or they keep the rest.

Visa gift cards are like this where you have to spend the exact amount on the card in one shot and if you don't
you are out of the difference because whatever doesn't get used reverts back to visa. Even if its only a few cents
just think how much money they make off of people leaving that 15 cents, 5 cents, 23 cents, 78 cents on those
cards and it not being able to use it and it goes back to visa after a certain time period. This happens 1000's of times
a day because they are counting on you leaving that 3 cents on the card til it expires so they can collect it.

I've never had a gift card go bad. The key is to use them almost immediately, before they start to linger in the back of your junk drawer. Of course, I always ask for cards that'll get used up very quickly like Walmart, Target, or my favorite restaurants.

To be honest, I don't think I gift card I've gotten at Christmas has ever made it to February!

That being said, Matty's being a jerk by requiring the entire thing to be used up at once.

Hell- even gentle giant lets you bank the gift card value-- and their whole setup is almost as screwed up as Mattys is.. (the system will literally only let you process an order with one item in your cart- it even states no combined shipping as they are unable to provide that)
