Does anybody know if there were any unreleased figures from the Batman line by Mattel from back in the earlier part of the decade? Obviously we got Batman, Joker, Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, Catwoman, Penguin, and Two-Face but I always wondered if they had had others in the works. As it turned out since pretty much all the "Good Guys" we re released initially, it would have left only rereleases and repaints unless they would have made a Comm. Gordon or other non costumed heroes. So that leaves the "Bad Guys". I can't imagine why we never got the Riddler, Scarecrow (which would have really been cool), Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, and Bane. In fact, I don't really even know why this line only lasted one wave at least in terms of original figures and not just rehash/repackage/repaint figures.
...but the question still stands... were there any known unreleased figures or even prototypes of unreleased figures?

My understanding is that Mattel bought the sculpts and/or molds from Hasbro when the license switched hands (not sure if Penguin was part of that or not since he came in a 4 pack later) and Mattel was basically just using those figures and the re-issued vehicles as a place holder until they could get Justice League product to the stores.

I also don't understand why this only lasted one wave. There were a ton of characters left to do: Bruce Wayne, Alfred, Gordon, Bullock, Riddler, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Bane, Firefly, Killer Croc, Scarecrow, etc. I really wish it would have continued, although the new DCAU line could allow this to continue.

Ok guys thanks! Your replies got me thinking, I don't remember Hasbro releasing a New Adventures version of the Penguin. Makes me wonder if the one released by Mattel was actually made using an unaltered Hasbro mold. Hmmm.
It does kinda seem like TNBA was just a place holder for Justice League because it seems as if some prototypes or something would have surfaced by now if the line had just been canceled. It looks like they may have only planned on those 8 figures and nothing past that other than JL.
I just hope that if Mattel has the rights to pretty much do any character that Harley, Ivy, and the Riddler aren't far away.

Hasbro did do TNBA versions of Riddler & Mr Freeze (as well as Two-Face). Freeze especially kicked all kinds of ass w/the removeable head feature. Mattel kinda half-assed a TNBA Ivy.

I think TNBA Scarecrow is the only glaring omission from the combined Hasbro/Mattel lineup. If they can make him, my Batman TAS shelf will be complete.

The new Bane would have been really cool as well. Maybe we'll get a JLU version using the big style body. It wouldn't be perfect, but would still be pretty close.

We also need TNBA Mad Hatter and TNBA Killer Croc (w/Baby Doll Accessory). TNBA Ventriloquist is different, but I could do without. It would also be nice to get an accurately painted Ra's Al Ghul in his suit/cloak. And what the hell, a TNBA Dick Grayson Robin. YES!

I am positive of this because there are no KB Toys anywhere near me, but my wife picked it up for me while grocery shopping. Also Mattel has only relesaed: Batman Robin Nightwing Batgirl Joker Two Face Catwoman Penguin All of the other TNBA figures are Mattel releases.

The figures Mattel did release in their B:TAS two packs were not Hasbro's molds although they did buy molds from Hasbro.

Save for the batcave playset, and the JL Batplane.

Is anyone even sure this was an exclusive? I know for a fact I saw him at KB. I have a KB and TRU at my mall but I remember seeing this pack at other KBs where there is no TRU close by.
