They also started a Perez-style line with Teen Titans, don't forget.
You make a good point about what they would have to pay the artists if they used their names in the series. And I think there are only a few artists with the name recognition to do this with (incidentally, I wouldn't have thought Ed McGuinness to be one of them, but I'm amazed at how popular figures based on his work have proven. I think DCD made a mistake in assuming that S/B figures sold so well because of the popularity of the series, not the artist. That's kind of what sparked this in my mind). But surely an umbrella line for figures by Alex Ross or Jim Lee would be tremendously popular. How about the Women of the DCU by Adam Hughes? That's the first thing I would do if I were in charge of DCD. Well, after bringing back Minimates!

So were these clues ever solved/confirmed? When is wave 3 due to be solicited? They're offering wave 1 and 2 back to back in Jun and Jul 2009. Would we dare hope for wave 3 in Aug2009? Surely they (DCD) aren't THAT confident about one of THEIR lines to offer figures every month are they??
On a side note, I sure wish they'd bring back minimates in box sets or something.

Wave 3 has been confirmed in this week's issue of Toyfare.
Superman
Silver Age Brainiac
Plastic Man
Ocean Master
With the exception of Ocean Master, this wave doesn't really excite me.

Well, going back to the clues, Superman is the last of his kind, Braniac is a classic villain, and Plastic Man could be a hero by another name (his secret identity is actually criminal Eel O'Brian). I'm sure Brewer's completely forgotten about his clues, or is at leas hoping that we have.

I like the inclusion of Ocean Master, but I have to wonder.
1. Still no female characters?
2. Doesn't this line up compete with the Mattel Superman and Silver Age Brainiac 2 pack sales?

I think this line purposely competes with that Mattel Two-Pack. And after thumbing through ToyFare last night, I like DC Direct's Brainiac better than Mattels. But scale issues between the lines and the number of DCUC that I have means that I will chose the DCUC Two-pack over the two separate DCD figures.
If this line turns out well, I can see myself cherry picking a few here and there. Batman, Black Lightning, maybe Aquaman since Ocean Master is coming out and I would like to get him, but in scale with an Aquaman. If it hasn't been done in DCUC, them it really piques my interest.

For me, it's no contest. I never wanted that 'heat vision' Superman anyway, and now I don't have to buy one in order to get Braniac! Hurrah!
Now where's Zatanna, blast it?

has anyone seen the pictures of these? It's just my opinion, but the pics I saw in Toyfare don't look anything like Perez's artwork. Superman just looks terrible.

The Ocean Master figure looks great.
I am definitely going to pick up Classic Black Lightning, Paul Kirk Manhunter and Blue Devil.

Yeah, this line is shaping up nicely, at least in the advertising stage. I still cannot figure out why there are no women in this line. The line is based upon George Perez, and we need a good version of Zatanna wearing the costume he designed for her.

I really cannot wait for Series 1 to come out, just so we really know what this series is all about, from a physical product standpoint. If I like the Batman and Black Lightning, I may grab a few here and there.

TR you know I like the Batman too. I would definitely like them to do a complete George Perez style Outsiders if the line goes pretty far. I mean they've got a great looking Batman (which I'm finding harder to not pick up) and Black LIghtning. The added articulation looks like it will only help the line.
