http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/09/21/dc-announce-bi-coastal-realignment-sounds-like-surgery-is-needed/Bleeding cool, while not the most reliable news source, is saying that the reorganization of DC means that DC Direct is done and gone by the end of 2011. If true, could that be the reason behind the mattel survey? Could this be why DC Direct just solicited the repainted Justice figures with only new heads? (could that be the formula for the rest of 2011...repaints till the end?) I really hope bleeding cool is wrong, since I do very much enjoy dc direct's products.

Too early to say... I have my doubts though. They were already diversifying and filling out their licenses with all of the DC Unlimited stuff.
I asked DC about that and am waiting on a reply.
There's nothing in the press release that would suggest that.

While not my primary source for toys, DC Direct has its share of products in my house (mostly statues/busts and a few action figures). I'll miss them if they DO disappear.

From CBR's interview with Diane Nelson; Quote: In the press release it says consumer products is moving to LA, does that include DC Direct group? This is just speculation on my part, but with consumer products moving to LA this sounds like an opportunity for greater integration with feature merchandising and things of that sort.
I’m not sure what that would be referring to, exactly, but Warner Bros. obviously has a meaningful consumer products division and the part of DC that works closely with Warner Bros’ consumer products are likely to be in the Los Angeles office, but you may be referring to DC Direct and you may be referring to other licensing initiatives and unfortunately right now I can’t get in to the specifics of that. I do think it would be fair to say that we’re looking for every opportunity to work more closely with the Warner Bros businesses, consumer products is just one, and we are going to work more closely with them.
This is not a cost cutting initiative and it is not a situation where we are assuming DC functions into Warner Bros. We’re looking for opportunities to work together, not to collapse DC in to Warner Bros.

I sure hope this isn't the truth. While I love Mattel and the Horseman sculpts I think DC Direct have produced some great figures and statues over the years. I have some of their figures and am very happy with them.

I didn't really understand the speculation. I get the notion that what they're doing at DCD isn't something that will be handled in NY anymore, but maybe the operation could be relocated (and hopefully not get Conaned...)

On DC Direct's facebook page.....they responded to the "Is DC Direct gone" article and their simple answer is untrue. If you would like to look at their response, then logon to facebook, find DC Direct, click on "just others", then scroll down until you see the response by Robert R. White. Hopes this helps with all the rumors!

Yeah...I am also confused where the idea of a company reorganization would mean that they are no longer producing products....Why would anyone assume that? Warner Brothers has a massive catalog of vendors and licenses and to NOT capitalize on the ability to create DC Comic products is a head scratcher. Money is money and I haven't read a single shred of information that points to DC Direct closing up shop. What would the GAIN in that be? THey are putting out numerous products on a monthly basis for Comic Book and specialty stores...the whole POINT of DC Direct was to keep things in house, so why would Warners want anyone else handling it?

I know! It would be like the toy company that owns Marvel Comics to decide to stop making toys and hand off the license to a third party!
Crazy talk!
