DC Collectibles is releasing vinyl figures based on DC characters that appeared in the Scribblenauts Unmasked game. They are kind of cute, but they are sold in blind boxes. Ugh.

I haven't seen them in stores yet, but I received a few in the mail, including Joker and Batman from Series 1. I would really like to get the Vampire Batman.

I would like to get a set of these as well.

But they'd truly just be an "impulse buy" for me as I'm standing at the register of my LCS. So, ultimately it depends on the price point of these and, knowing its DCC, I'm assuming it'll be a tad too high for an "impulse buy".

Any time I see something interesting that's in blind packaging I always end up passing on it. These look kind of neat but wasting money on duplicates is just not something that fills me with a warm feeling. So this will be an easy pass for me. I know they make more profit from some customers this way, but they make no profit from me.

According to the press materials, they are supposed to cost only $5. That seems low, because most vinyl figures that size go for $10 to $20, depending on the distributor.

This is the first blind box for DC Collectibles, although the trend is growing at retail.

I've learned from previous blind-box purchases that it's better to buy a whole case if you are a completist or pick the ones you want on eBay, where you can usually get them for less.

... I think eBay will be the route I go if I ultimately decide to take the plunge.

I would love to get these. My kids saw pics of these and want to get some but I hate the blind box format and if
it's a figure my kids don't want they'll be disappointed. So I may go the Ebay route as well.

Yeah- but aren't these the size of those Micro Mugg Iron Man Figures that Hasbro Did-- (and those only ran about 5 Bucks.)

Wasn't that WHos Who micro building "figure" line a Blind Box line as well...

You are right about the Who's who boxes too Stew. They were blind boxed.

The mini Mighty Muggs were about 3-4 dollars at Target if I remember. I bought an IM one for my daughter and I think that was the cost.

A look at the first wave:

Image

The mystery figure is Maxwell in Green Lantern guise.

DC is promoting the launch of the toys on variant covers of comic books.

I'm not familiar with the Micro Muggs Iron Man figures, but the Scribblenauts figures are about 2-1/2 inches tall.

Funny you should mention that. The designers at DC thought he was the cutest. One of them told me that early sketches for Black Manta were an inspiration for the toy line.

Slightly related... Was looking at the t-shirt wall in menswear at Walmart last night and they have a DC Scribblenauts t-shirt. Three rows of six characters. I know that the top two rows were all villains (Joker, Harley, Poison Ivy, Penguin, Joker, Riddler, Doomsday, Bizarro, Luthor, Catwoman and two more that I'm drawing a blank on right now) and the bottom row was heroes (Supergirl, Superman, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Batman and Robin).
