Okay, so I'm building an android...out of cardboard and I was wondering what to do for his joints. I want him to be able to move his neck and arms...possibly his tail. This is what he looks like:

He will be life size...or close to it, but he's about half the height of an average height male or shorter.

Good luck with that Dyonus. I had one of those bookstore display Battle Droids from when The Phantom Menace was released and that thing was a nightmare to keep together. Not so much from a design standpoint as much as the cardboard not being able to hold that much weight for any period of time. From the illustration you have there it seems as if yours would be a similar build. It's been a few years since I passed the thing on to another collector but I think the elbows were "hinged" using clear plastic screws and wingnuts to hold them together. I don't remember how the shoulders were attached, though. I think the head had some movement and I think it was based on the neck going into the head and creating a swivel joint that way. Can't tell from the image, but if the tail will touch the ground you may want to use it as additional support instead of trying to give it articulation.

Good luck with the project, please post some pics when you're done.

This is what I have so far. And I'm not done yet.
