They debuted in June, 1963 in My Greatest Adventure #80. The book was being converted from an adventure title to something more superhero, and writers Arnold Drake and Bob Haney and artist Bruno Premiani came up with a team that fit both formats - super-powered misfits, whose "gifts" caused them alienation and trauma. The Doom Patrol.

They soon had their own series, and it took a decidedly strange and weird direction. Villains included the immortality-seeking General Immortus, the shapeshifting Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man, and the Brotherhood of Evil. Many are convinced that Stan Lee based the idea of the X-Men on the Doom Patrol.

When the popularity of the book waned and the publisher canceled it, Drake ended the series in a dramatic manner: he killed off the entire Doom Patrol. This marked the first time in comic book history that a canceled book ended by having most of its cast of main characters die. Of course, they came back.

Mattel - MAKE THEM FOR DCUC!

I really just want Chief, Negative Man, Robotman, and a C&C Elasti-Girl.

I know that Beast Boy and Mento are important, but I don't want them the same way.

I was a little disappointed that they never made them for the Teen Titans line by Bandai. i loved their rendition of Cliff Steele. Needless to say I'd love to see a 4-pack in the JLU form or DCUC.

I'm in the same boat as you Nitewing73. I have all of the Bandai Titans figures and most of the vehicles. I really wish that the Doom Patrol figures that were shown at the one Comicon a while back would have actually made it to production along with the villains as well. Those figures would have been very welcome in my JLU/Titans toy display!

F.Y.I. I am looking for old Batman/Superman animated figures. I need Killer Croc, Manbat, Ventriliquist, Alfred, Riddler and Lois Lane.

If we are reminiscing about the Doom Patrol, why has no mention been made of the Morrison era team. They are by far some of the craziest characters ever to gather in the funny pages and I LOVED them more than any other incarnation of the group.

I agree, I very much want the classic team to be made 1st, but somewhere down the line, I want Morrison's team as well.

No, I want them for JLU, but please Mattel if you are going to do them, do it fast, do not take 6 months to make and delivery them as the Cheetah and Batman Beyond 3 packs

The purple was just the costume, including a full head mask. It was the crazy 60s man!
