Just a reminder that there will be free Black Lantern rings given out as promotional give-aways at comic shops. Presumably when Blackest Night #1 arrives in stores.

This is cool news. Thanks for letting us know. Of course, a full set of rings that glowed in the dark would be even cooler... And yes, people would pay for that DcDirect !

BLackest Night #1 hits mid July.
I already have the ring "pre-ordered" and still have a GL ring from way back when they launched GL: Mosaic so I am one step ahead of the game!
Nyah Nyah!

Earth-2 Comics was selling a set of buttons in the various Corps colors during their grand re-opening last Saturday. They have words like "willpower" or "hope" on each and it was cool seeing some creators wearing them as they signed stuff and drew sketches.

bnjmnrlyr, I've still got mine too!
(Was that promotion really for launching Mosaic? I always thought it was for GL #25 when Hal had the fist fight with Guy. I guess it was at around the same time and it was for both events. I dunno because I only collected the GL main title)
I loved the fact that the centre circle piece was glow-in-the-dark.

I just re-checked the PREVIEWS catalogue for clarity:
Under the solicitation for Blackest Night #1 (on sale July 15) 1 of 8, 48pages
-retailers: please see this month's Order Form for details on the promotional BLACKEST NIGHT rings!-
written by Geoff Johns
art/cover by Ivan Reis and Oclair Albert
for every 250 copies ordered retailers can order a sketch variant cover.
1-in-25 variant by Ethan Van Sciver
These rings are a great idea for a promotion, and I'm not too shy to admit that I'll wear one when I get it.
(when I get home, where no one will see me )

I had the ring for Mosaic. It was a pretty neat promo item, probably the first GL ring I ever owned. Wish I'd kept it.

NICE! I really hope I can snag one.. My LCS isn't very good about holds, variants and exclusives for anyone that doesn't hand over their paycheck on a weekly basis.
I wish I had more options.. but I guess ebay is a good backup.
Bring on Blackest Night!

I think I have a yellow ring from a DcDirect Sinestro from a few years back. (And an Avengers ring that came with a Wonder Man figure - is he a red lantern?)

Hey something to keep in perspective...DC Comics is allowing retailers to buy 50 rings when they purchase 50 copies of the comic...
So, they aren't necessarily "free" from DC, they are "free" if your lcbs orders and pays for them.
Not trying to be Debbie Downer, but just dont want your lcbs to get blamed if you dont get a ring!

That is the way these "free" promotions always work. Your LCBS has to buy them from <insert publisher name here> as a tie in to a book purchase and then they are "supposed" to give them away.
Different stores handle it in different ways. The store I used to manage and the store I shop at now give preference or "first pick" to reserve customers and then whatever is left over goes out in a bin at the register for "walk-ins".
I've heard of stores that give them away as part of a costume contest, fan appreciation day, photo ops, store signings, whatever. Each store will have its own agenda/delivery system for getting these out.
But, yeah, to the store owner, they ain't free.

I've got a couple rings from various figures over the years. GL, Sinestro, LoSH. Don't know about that animated Avengers ring, anymore, could barely fit it over my pinky, anyway. I still have the original Power Battery and ring set (Hal's Ferris 'locker' box).
The last GL ring promotion wasn't that long ago, was it?
I know my current dealer asked if I was getting the tie-in issue, knowing I'm a GL fan, and when I said yes, he handed me the ring and said, "Welcome the the Corps." (yeah, we were being stupid.)
Someone out on Cali had a series of cheap pins made up when they first revealed all the Lantern Corps designs, for regular and 'reversed' colors. I posted the pic on my dealer's MySpace page and asked him why they didn't do the same? (If you're on my friends, check out Brendan's page. I'll try to share the pic later.)
I also recently stumbled across some custom metallic light-up rings on one of the GL forums ( http://www.thegreenlanterncorps.com/forum ). Don't know which one, as I found it just before AT+T made me crash/kill the desktop trying to stay online. Just image google "Blue Lantern Corps" and it should come up pretty near the top.
(just checking, not at top, but someone turned the 4H Elephant Man into Wraal already! cool!)
not this one: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://ringoblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/sterling-silver-eight-lanterns-corps-rings.jpg&imgrefurl=http://ringoblog.com/ring-by-type/sterling-silver-rings/sterling-silver-the-eight-laterns-corps-rings/&usg=__YyCzOEqiD0oGu7qJcZNjIZ2l4rU=&h=756&w=584&sz=330&hl=en&start=3&um=1&tbnid=RWo8BNIVbyXFXM:&tbnh=142&tbnw=110&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dblue%2Blantern%2Bring%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DG%26um%3D1
This looks to be the Black Lantern Ring from that series:

There's a Blue Ring on the sidebar. Still not sure who made these.
