McFarlane has announced a new line of Sports Figures called Playmakers. All I can say is... it's about time! I hate the first sport picked and the line-up is typical McFarlane, but hopefully these at least look better that Gracelyn Replays, although it is obvious that the line-ups will not be as team or player diverse and I doubt the uniform selections will be either. McFarlane News for 11/13/2009 wrote: MCFARLANE TOYS ANNOUNCES 'PLAYMAKERS' SPORTS ACTION FIGURES Inaugural Assortment of Highly Detailed, Articulated, 4-inch Figures Coming Spring of 2010 November 13, 2009 Copyright 2009 TMP International, Inc. McFarlane Toys is pleased to announce our newest addition to our ongoing sports action figure product, Playmakers. Playmakers are a completely new type of McFarlane Toys' product based on our existing sports licenses.
Playmakers action figures include the high level of detail that McFarlane Toys is known for in a newly developed 4-inch scale figure. The addition of tremendous articulation, more than 20 moving parts, will allow for complete playability and will enable consumers to recreate countless sports action poses.
Our initial release of Playmakers action figures is planned to include twelve fan-favorite baseball players, with each figure having a batting and fielding version available.
* Alex Rodriguez -- New York Yankees * Dustin Pedroia -- Boston Red Sox * Albert Pujols -- St. Louis Cardinals * Derek Jeter -- New York Yankees * Manny Ramirez -- Los Angeles Dodgers * Ichiro Suzuki -- Seattle Mariners * Ryan Howard -- Philadelphia Phillies * Chipper Jones -- Atlanta Braves * David Ortiz -- Boston Red Sox * Josh Beckett -- Boston Red Sox * David Wright -- New York Mets * Tim Lincecum -- San Francisco Giants
Playmakers are scheduled to release to retailers nationwide in Spring of 2010.

[NOTE: I typed the reply yesterday, but apparently never hit 'submit' so it's been sitting on my upstairs computer since then...sigh]
Ha! You beat me to it! I just found out about these this morning and was coming here to post the same thing! ;-)
This is awesome news. Good heavens, there's now going to be two lines from McFarlane I collect (Halo and Playmakers)? Who woulda thunk it?
I wonder how much longer Gracelyn has the NFL license for? I like RePlays, but have a feeling these will be better looking. Gracelyn doesn't do well with face sculpts, and their MLB figures were pretty wonky.
But, NFL is where the money is...so you know McF has GOT to be gunning for that...

LOL!
Yeah, I'd think the NFL is definitely in McFarlane's sights too.
I don't have a lot of them, but I stopped buying Gracelyn RePlays because the head sculpts got (a lot) worse with Series 2.
What scares me with McFarlane is that looking at MLB Series 1, the team selection is just a carry over from Sports Picks. What RePlays have going for them are the more diversified team selections, positions and team uniforms; Gracelyn has done uniforms that Sports Picks collectors have begged for McFarlane to make, and when McFarlane has made them, they have been HTF chases. So I don't look forward to that aspect of McFarlane making these.
That said, I am looking forward to seeing the final product, even if I do not collect anything baseball related.

My world is getting turned upside down. Looks like there's going to be three lines from McF that I'll be collecting in 2010: Halo, Prince of Persia and now, Playmakers!
A 'first look' was recently posted on Spawn.com:

Not crazy about that weird shoulder articulation, but regardless...I am all over this line and any further sports expansions

Well, one of the pieces of news that I was hoping to hear out of Toy Fair quietly slipped out with zero fanfare... I was hoping McFarlane would announce NFL Playmakers. Well, in this one picture on TNI there's a loose Peyton Manning proto. So, I guess NFL is happening! It was just a matter of time, but I wasn't sure on the status of Gracelyn's license. Looks like Replays are officially no more. http://i.toynewsi.com/g/index.php?disps ... G_0400.JPG

Oh, that looks nice! I hope McFarlane has better luck with players and teams than Gracelyn did. I know TMP has gotten caught on a number of occasions, but new Gracelyns just hit the pegs at Walmart and there are plenty of Dallas Cowboys Zach Thomases, Cleveland Browns Braylon Edwards, Detroit Lions Roy Williamses, New England Patriots Tedy Bruschi, etc. Way, way WAY out of date!
And does this mean the larger scaled Gracelyns are dead before arrival?

TRDouble wrote: And does this mean the larger scaled Gracelyns are dead before arrival? Yup. I had noticed they disappeared off the Clark Toys site awhile back, wrote Clark Toys about it. They said that Gracelyn hadn't responded to them in months. Also, Gracelyn's site has been replaced by: http://gracelyntoys.com/ Their 6" NFL actually looked pretty good and I was going to pick up some, but I'm more than happy with 4" from McFarlane. If Playmakers goes NBA and NHL I'm a dead man!

Hmmm....I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess there's no Bluejackets in that line! I'd happily settle for any Sharks players, 'though. I'm staying connected to my Bay Area roots!

I don't expect there to be any Sabres either, unless Ryan Miller plays like a madman at the olympics and there is a series 2 or 3. Sadly, McFarlane has made it quite clear which teams are favored and which ones are ignored in the sports lines.
Which is why I am hoping these are successful. If they are, perhaps they can have expanded line-ups and diversify the teams represented a bit. I know it is getting back to Starting Line-Up territory, but in 2010 style, but at this point, I will take any Buffalo Sabres Starting Line-Ups compared to the basically zero Sabres I get now from McFarlane.
And just for the record, I am not hoping these succeed at the expense of Sports Picks; I do still enjoy the Sports Picks line!

For me the difference is I only get a few SportsPicks (Niners, SF Giants, Indians) but I'll collect Playmakers and likely get them all.
