First there was the C3 collection with Minimates...
Then, Lego picked up the Batman license and we all hoped it would expand into DCU...

Now, Fisher Price has unveiled the newest license in the TRIO building system ... DC SuperFriends!

From what my son and I have seen (over at CTR, click here: http://www.cooltoyreview.com/tf2010/gal ... mattel-dc/ ), we are loving it, and I'm wondering where it will all go.

The style is very quirky, almost a lovechild of DC Direct's new Blammoids and Lego people. I can see why many adult collectors will have a bit of an aversion to the line.

It also seems to be very Bat-theme heavy, much like Imaginext. Hopefully it will expand and utilize the full range of the name DC SuperFriends implies.

Price point will be the biggest factor in whether or not we actually buy into the line, but I can guarantee that we will get a set or two to play with and check out regardless of going full tilt or not.

Anyone have any thoughts on these?

They look kinda fun, but I don't get the need for a new line. The Imaginext line seems to be just catching steam--are they gonna have both?

TRIO is a building block line that is inter-connective with other block toys like Lego and (supposedly) K'nex. It would, I presume, run with Imagniext, not instead of. Without a more official word though, your guess is as good as mine.

Forget that garbage, bring back C3!!!!

Putting aside my GL Bias, a Green Lantern Trio Set would really be awesome.

Hell, you could do the majority of the bricks just plain old clear green and it would be both cost effective AND more fun!

F-P stuff is right at home here (where the Imaginext thread has always been) as would be Tyco, Radica, etc, we just try to keep the Mattel WWE stuff in the wrestling forum to make it easier for wrestling fans to find.

Huh. I don't like it. But my pro-LEGO bias is almost impossible to overcome when it comes to building sets.

I don't like the Trio building design anyway--an uncomfortable fusion of LEGO, K'NEX and Tinkertoy. It's not as universally flexible as any one of those on its own. But then the little stubby figures, and the same ol' Batman sets all over again...nah. We'll pass.

I'm hoping the Imaginext Superfriends keep moving forward, and this Trio thing will be a flash in the pan for FP that will die soon.
