Highly Anticipated Series Premieres in October during AMC Fearfest

NEW YORK, NY – July 9, 2010 – The stars and producers of AMC’s highly-anticipated series “The Walking Dead,” based on the comic book written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, will descend on Comic Con 2010 for a panel event and exclusive sneak preview of the original drama. “The Walking Dead” panel, scheduled for Friday, July 23 at 11:30am in room 6BCF, will feature series stars Andrew Lincoln (Love Actually), Jon Bernthal (“The Pacific”), Sarah Wayne Callies (“Prison Break”), Laurie Holden (The Mist), and Emma Bell (“Law & Order”). Joining the cast are writer, director, executive producer and three-time Academy Award nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile); executive producers Kirkman and Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon), make-up artist Greg Nicotero (George Romero’s Land of the Dead, The Mist); and Joel Stillerman, AMC's SVP of original programming, production and digital content. “The Walking Dead” will premiere this October during AMC Fearfest, the network's annual blockbuster marathon of thriller and horror films.

During the hour-long event, moderator Eric Moro of IGN.com will lead panelists in a discussion about their experience shooting the series in Atlanta, and the process of bringing Kirkman’s comic book to life on the small screen, among other topics, followed by an exclusive first look at “The Walking Dead,” and a Q&A session with attendees.

“The Walking Dead” panel will be complemented by a number of on-the-ground activities taking place throughout Comic Con:

About “The Walking Dead”

The Walking Dead tells the story of the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse. County Sheriff Rick Grimes travels with his family and a small group of survivors, constantly in search of a safe and secure home. But the constant pressure of fighting off death on a daily basis takes a heavy toll, sending many to the lowest depths of human cruelty. As Rick struggles to keep his family alive, he will discover that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth.

AMC and Fox International Channels (FIC) recently announced an unprecedented partnership whereby FIC has picked up all International Television and Home Video rights to “The Walking Dead,” the network’s first wholly-owned original production series. The deal includes a first-run window on all FIC’s outlets in addition to full distribution rights for the life of the series, outside of the U.S. and Canada.

In addition to Darabont, Hurd and Kirkman, David Alpert from Circle of Confusion, and Charles “Chic” Eglee (Dexter, The Shield, Dark Angel) serve as executive producers. Jack LoGiudice (Sons of Anarchy, Resurrection Blvd) serves as co-executive producer.

I would have LOVED to see the Walking Dead panel.

Of course, my odds of getting into it would be slim to none.

CBS's heroes and the anti-heroes of SHOWTIME will make their mark at Comic-Con 2010 in San Diego from July 21 through 25. The company's extensive presence through panels, a booth, autograph signings and a joint "Fandemonium" party with Entertainment Weekly will provide Comic-Con fans with multiple opportunities to engage with CBS and Showtime Networks' popular stars and creative teams.

The SHOWTIME and CBS panels will include a session on the three-time Emmy® Award-nominated and Peabody Award-winning series "Dexter;" a special SHOWTIME Anti-Hero panel featuring the stars and creative talent behind some of television's most subversive characters, including "Weeds," "Nurse Jackie" and "Californication;" a session on the highly anticipated return of the iconic series, "Hawaii Five-0;" and CBS's "Teching Out on TV" panel comprised of stars who play the beloved tech-geek characters on "NCIS," "NCIS: LA" and "Criminal Minds" to be joined by both the creator and technical expert behind "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."

Entertainment Weekly and CBS will jointly celebrate all things pop culture — including the fans — at their "fandemonium" event on Thursday, July 22. The party will bring together stars from CBS's primetime line-up, EW.com bloggers Michael Ausiello and Jeff "Doc" Jensen, as well as fans attending the convention for an evening of fun, food, drinks and a live Q&A moderated by Entertainment Weekly Managing Editor, Jess Cagle.

At the CBS Booth (#4129), a fun mix of CBS and SHOWTIME talent and producers will sign autographs. Among many giveaways and contests is the chance to win a vacation getaway to the filming location of "Hawaii Five-0" on the island of Oahu. The cast will be on hand exclusively to sign free, specially-produced Comic-Con/"Hawaii Five-0" collectors' posters.

Since no one would savor Comic-Con more than the brilliant and quirky characters on the phenomenally popular CBS comedy series, "The Big Bang Theory," it's more than fitting that, in conjunction with Warner Bros. Television, the celebrated series' cast will interact with fans at the CBS booth, the Warner Bros. booth (#4545) and the CBS/Entertainment Weekly "fandemonium" party. On Friday, July 23, the cast will participate in Warner Bros. Television's "The Big Bang Theory" panel (12:45 to 1:45 PM in Ballroom 20).

Those who cannot physically attend Comic-Con can follow the extensive on-site video and text coverage on CBS Interactive's TV.com and Gamespot.com. TV.com's editorial team will provide round-the-clock coverage of the biggest news on the hottest television shows at the convention, including interviews and coverage broadcast from CBS booth #4129 on the exhibit floor. GameSpot.com, covering Comic-Con from a video game perspective, will feature stage demonstrations as well as interviews with the biggest movers and shakers in the gaming industry.

For THE EARLY SHOW's coverage from San Diego, special correspondent and "Superfan" Tyler McGill will mix with the ultimate fans of pop culture and report live from the convention on Friday, July 23. This is McGill's fourth special assignment for the morning show since his impressive on-air debut last month to discuss his 218-mile walk from Boston to New York to win Celtics playoff tickets.

Additionally, Showtime Networks' SHO.com is launching a dedicated Comic-Con microsite which will host the season five "Dexter" trailer and content from the Anti-Hero panel, both to be showcased after their respective panels.

SHOWTIME's anti-hero messaging will be prominently featured throughout Comic-Con with high-impact advertising both inside and outside of the convention center. The official lanyards for the over 130,000 Comic-Con attendees will be branded by SHOWTIME's anti-hero creative, and in a media company first, so will every shuttle bus at Comic-Con.

SHOWTIME will also launch "Dexter Game On" (www.DexterGameOn.com), an interactive game exclusively for Comic-Con where players will step into Dexter's mind and unlock content from season five. As devoted "Dexter" fans know, all of Dexter's victims are marked with a small incision on their right cheek, and fans at Comic-Con can show their love for the series by sporting a "Dexter" cheek slash tattoo. SHOWTIME will distribute over 100,000 lick-'n-stick tattoos throughout all four days of Comic-Con. Fans are encouraged to take pictures of themselves at various locations around the convention and upload them to the "Dexter Game On" site. As they play throughout the weekend, gamers have the chance to unlock exclusive content and pick up "Dexter"-themed merchandise including season four DVDs.

CBS's Teching Out on TV (Sat., July 24, 2:00-3:00 PM, Room 7AB)

Since the debut of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" 10 years ago, the use of technology has increasingly become a major character of sorts in many of today's most popular crime procedurals, including the CBS series "CSI: Miami," "CSI: NY," "NCIS," "NCIS: Los Angeles" and "Criminal Minds." How has technology changed – on and off screen – since the premiere of "CSI"? How much of the technology used on these shows is real vs. artistic license? How has the use of technology on these shows influenced the real world? Anthony Zuiker, "CSI" creator and executive producer of "CSI," "CSI: Miami" and "CSI: NY," will moderate a discussion with three of television’s best-known tech wiz’s – Pauley Perrette (NCIS Forensic Specialist Abby Sciuto on "NCIS"), Kirsten Vangsness (FBI Technical Analyst Penelope Garcia on "Criminal Minds") and Barrett Foa (NCIS Tech Operator Eric Beal on "NCIS: Los Angeles") — as well as "CSI's" former technical advisor and current supervising producer, Richard Catalani. COMICS CREATOR & VIDEO GAME ART DIRECTOR MAT BROOME TO ANNOUNCE TWO NEW PROJECTS AT SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON

At the 2010 Comic-Con International in San Diego, comics creator and Sony Art Director Mat Broome will be on-hand to showcase the first glimpse at two new innovative projects. The first announcement is of a new creator-owned comic series, following in the footsteps of his last creator-owned series The End League with Rick Remender. Broome's second announcement will be of an innovative online start-up that will bring together the top creative minds of comics, video games, film, television and music. These two projects underscore a revitalized creative effort by Broome that has been years in the making.

"I've been absent from the San Diego Comic Convention for years since I published my own books with Saffire and Skinners," said Mat Broome," so it'll be a blast coming back to the con after publishing several games with a large company like Sony, and returning to comics with 3D knowledge, and a software developers experience. It's going to allow me to do creative things with my ideas, and new properties that I could have only dreamed of before and make them more accessible to a larger audience."

Broome leads a dual career, working as an Art Director at Sony Online Entertainment and as Visual Director for the DC Universe Online MMORPG while also illustrating such comic projects as The End League for Dark Horse and Marvel Comics' Legend of the Blue Marvel. Broome has a long history in the comics industry, having got his start working on Marvel's X-Force series before joining Jim Lee's Homage Studios and WildStorm Entertainment working on a variety of projects including his own series Defcon 4. With over twenty years spent in both the comic and video game industries, Broome has first-hand knowledge and front-line experience on the ins and outs of being successful.

"Over the past 25 years in entertainment, I've met and worked with an amazing group of creators, In Music, Gaming, Publishing and even Animation," Broome explained. "There's been no shortage of talented people all wanting to share and get involved in building relationships with other professionals. Launching my own start up gives me the opportunity to "give back" to as many as possible and help grow the business to others who aren't in and around Los Angeles."

Mat Broome will be on-hand during San Diego Comic-Con at Booth #2002, showcasing both projects for both fans and industry colleagues.

In one of those only-at-Comic-Con occurences, Cindy Morgan of “Tron” fame met the actors and producers of “Merlin” -- from left to right, Colin Morgan (Merlin), Anthony Head (Uther), Cindy Morgan, co-creator/executive producers Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy. Everyone was thrilled. Cindy said “Merlin” is her favorite TV show and the only one she watches regularly, and Anthony said he is a HUGE fan of the original “Tron.”
