Currently on two computers trying to register for next year's SDCC. Both say the site is crashing. Getting serious Matty WSOD flashbacks. MODS: Didn't know where else to put this, so feel free to open a 2011 Convention Forum or move this where ever you deem appropriate.

Okay, half hour in and I've managed to input my name on the registration site on one computer. The other computer is stuck in internet limbo attempting to get to the registration site. It's not looking good, people. I'll have to decide if I'm willing to settle for a couple single day passes. If I can even get those.

Okay, I give up. I only have so much time I can devote to this. It's been nearly 90 minutes and I haven't made any headway save putting my name in once and then going off into cyber-limbo. Now the site is saying "SERVICE UNAVAILABLE" I've refreshed, started over, etc. Sheesh. I expect this from Matty, but usually SDCC has their stuff together. Sigh.

Just checked. Now it's saying:
"Please check back on the 8th of November for information on the new registration date."
Anyone have a clue what happened? I can guess server issues...

Yep, whomever SDCC has handling their ticket sales couldn't handle the amount of traffic On the bright side, it gives me another week to decide if we're going or not. Still, I feel bad for those who committed to buying today

This is why you buy at SDCC in person instead of waiting to buy them online. No hassle at all.

Checked the website today for an update and here's what it said: Comic-Con registration will open on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 6:00am Pacific Time. Thank you very much for your patience. That's a weird starting time and it pretty much leaves me out since I'll be commuting around then (it'll be 7 AM in AZ). I might be able to revise my morning routine a bit, but if I can't get tickets within the first 15 minutes I'll be SOL. Maybe the toy gods are telling me NOT to go to SDCC this year.

I'm glad I've never had to experience the horror of purchasing these online.

I've never been to SDCC. Not once. Ever.
Now, I don't think I even want to bother trying.

Now, I don't think I even want to bother trying. I was thinking the same thing. SDCC has been on my bucket list for quite a while now. Cost aside, I don't know if it's worth the frustration.

Everybody should go at least one, but it has gotten pretty big this past decade. I first went in 2002 and had a great time. Only Saturday felt crowded. Then I went every year from 2004-2009 and had a blast! But especially the last couple of years I really noticed how friggin' crowded it had gotten. We're talking wall to wall, brush up against people, crowded. You'd literally have to turn sideways and squeeze your way through a lot of the aisles, especially on Friday and Saturday. It also became pretty hard to see anything in Hall H unless you practically sat out overnight. While I enjoyed 2009, I didn't feel quite the joy I usually got and I realized that I was becoming a little burned out so I decided to take a year off. Little did I know the Con was about to reach critical mass and I'd be locked out of it! On the one hand, I'll save well over $1000, but on the other, it's one of the coolest conventions on earth.

I'll definitely echo SH's sentiments and say that everyone should go at least once. My wife and I have a blast every time we've went. What SH felt in 09 I felt this last year. Of course we had our son with us. So trying to push a stroller through the crowd and keeping my spouse calm probable added to the strain that normally isn't there This has been our annual pilgrimage and I highly recommend it as an experience. Even if your spouse isn't into toys or collectibles, there is plenty of other stuff to get their attention.

The supposed "hassles" don't ever bother me because when you go to SDCC you either can deal with the crowds or you can't. For those that say they'll never go to SDCC again there's plenty to take their place.
