Though their
Drive doesn't hit theaters until September 16th, the first Nicolas Winding Refn/Ryan Gosling teaming is already receiving rave festival reviews and paving the way for multiple upcoming collaborations.
Twitch has confirmed that Gosling is set to headline the director's next,
Only God Forgives, while Refn himself spoke with
The LA Times about their potential remake of
Logan's Run for Warner Brothers.
The Gosling/Refn iteration, first announced
earlier this year as a re-adaptation of William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson's 1967 sci-fi novel, has been long-gestating.
Gosling will potentialy star as Logan 5 (a role played by Michael York in the 1976 film version) a police officer called a "Sandman" who, in the futuristic society of the story, is responsible for hunting down "runners": those who refuse to submit when, at age thirty (21 in the novel), they're removed from society.
"'Logan's Run' is dated in the sense that everything came true," Refn says,
"They've been trying to make it for years with the notion of just trying to remake the original movie. And it has to be rethought... We'll put together a team of futurists and artists and we'll dream on this world."William Beall, known for his work on the television series "Castle" and for the upcoming
Gangster Squad, is set to draft and, as Gosling explains, there's no rush:
"Joel [Silver] said the other night, 'Take your time and make it good. It doesn't have to be ready at any point.'"The original film also starred Jenny Agutter and featured appearances by Farrah Fawcett and Peter Ustinov. It was also the basis for a spinoff television series while the novel itself launched two sequels, "Logan's World" and "Logan's Search."
