Well they started these things about 5 years ago with their own series-- then quickly added TMNT and Marvel...

This year they landed the big one... Star Wars...

And to my surprise this morning for 2011 in Target .....DC Comics...(ill wait for someone to publish the set list before I try and get some Batman ones..)

I dont believe any other mass market toy line (and Im not counting some stupid rubber bands)----has ever had 4 of the top 10 properties of all time--(anyone else think of anything-- not counting things like Hot Toys, Sideshow or Gentle Giant)

I thought these things were dead but they certainly came roaring back to life.

I would love to pick up the DC set. 52 character beans in "wave 1" according to the package.

BUT ... before I opt in to another line, is anyone else going to be collecting these. I know with the blind packaging I am in for a massive amount of duplicates so I would like to set up a trade ring BEFORE I commit to buying to try and help eachother out with getting full sets.

If no one else is interested, I'll leave them hanging on the pegs...

I don't think you have to worry about duplicates. For the Marvel and Star Wars Mighty Beanz lines, the sets weren't random. For example, if you found a pack with Spiderman in the front, and Iron Man, Thor, and Ant-Man inside, that would be the same assortment for every pack with Spiderman in the front.

If you're talking 3D toys I'd say Mego, Ideal or Marx would've been the ones "back in the day" if you're talking overall that would have to go to Colorforms, hands down.

The problem with this is -- same for Star Wars-- but there are still different levels of beans-- right now all of the star wars one still arent available- but you can get everything out there by buying like 16 packs (including the WM clone wars exclusives)- instead of the 24 or so that have been released.. So you will still get doubles and triples of some beanz- not to mention the exclusives in carrying cases and such.. So the real problem with this line is if you are trying for a complete collection- there just isnt much trading..(unless you find someone who just wants a certain common character.

Yeah, IF I buy into these, I want a set.

I don't want to just pick and choose. I don't want to hope I get a certain character.

I either want all 52 (54? whatever) in the line or I don't want to waste my money on any of them.

However, my son has been wanting to pick up a few of these since he first saw them (the generic non-licensed ones) at Big Lots a few months back. Mostly for that Teeter-Totter raceway doohickey, but still ...

I'm not sure I'll be able to hold him off much longer so some trading here on the boards would be MUCH APPRECIATED.

Gonna post this in the other thread, too...

If anyone of you buys packs of these, *PLEASE* make note (with the numbers) of the bean that is visible in the package along with the other three beans that are hidden. Then we can try to keep a running list of what beans are in what packages. Going to try to get to Target this weekend and pick up a couple of packs myself...

Jim, I bought one out of curiosity and DC completionitis (I both have no interest in these, and also feel mildly compelled to get some :) ), and here was my breakdown:

#01 - Aquaman (hidden in Deathstroke package)
#13 - Penguin (hidden in Deathstroke package)
#20 - Maxwell Lord (hidden in Deathstroke package)
#37 - Deathstroke (visible in package)

Thanks for getting this started, x!

Going to start a thread in the checklist forum for this and will add to it as we get info...

EDIT: Checklist live (but still very much a work in progress... :P  )

All right.

I caved.

I bought some.

Here's the breakdown.

9. Cyborg (visible)
4. Catwoman
7. Gorilla Grodd
32. Two-Face

11. Captain Boomerang (visible)
2. Flash
32. Two-Face
33. Mr. Freeze

37. Deathstroke (visible)
1. Aquaman
13. Penguin
22. Maxwell Lord

42. Black Canary (visible)
1. Aquaman
11. Captain Boomerang
31. Hawkman

Apparently the Captain Atom pack is the "big ticket" as it has Captain Marvel/Shazam in it. It is also the only pack that has been sold out at every Target I went to.

As you can see, doubles will be prevalent. In the 4 packs I bought I now have extras of Two-Face, Captain Boomerang, and Aquaman. If you get 3 unique figures per pack of 4 it will take 18 packs to get a complete set (with 18 or so dupes). Not very enticing, but its better odds than if these were completely randomly packed.

To see how much of a problem this can be-- this post from the scum explains it all (and not that I can say much since I contributed to it)- the best strategy may be to wait until everything has been released.

I'm trying to complete the list of which Beanz come in which pack, especially to see which packs can be skipped to still maintain a complete set. If anyone can confirm the full contents of the two new waves and the Walmart ones that I have a question mark by below, please respond and I'll update the list.

I've already found that if you buy the right Walmart packs (which are the same as the first two waves except with one Bean replaced), you only need to buy 12 of those 24 to not miss any Beanz. I crossed out the packs you don't need to buy below. However, this depends on whether I am correct below that Asajj comes in the Walmart Yoda pack. I've seen two conflicting reports on what's in this pack.

So far it looks like at least 8 of the 12 new wave 3 and 4 packs will be necessary to get new Beanz. But depending on what the repacks in those new waves are, it could make more older packs unnecessary to buy. I did highlight in bold below the Beanz that so far have only shipped in ONE pack, so those are the packs that there's no way to get out of buying.

WAVE 1:
#01 Luke - #24 AT-AT Driver, #29 Jawa, #31 Padme
#03 Leia - #19 Boba Fett, #26 Tie Pilot, #33 Anakin Skywalker
#05 R2-D2 - #04 Darth Vader, #15 Stormtrooper, #37 Bossk
#07 Yoda - #08 Chewbacca, #16 Ackbar, #42 IG-88
#09 Jabba - #06 Obi-Wan, #18 Dooku, #43 Emperor
#12 Clone - #02 Han, #25 Grievous, #51 Slave Leia

WALMART WAVE 1:
#01 Luke - #29 Jawa, #31 Padme, #68 Cad Bane
#03 Leia - #19 Boba Fett, #33 Anakin Skywalker, #66 Plo Koon [OR #69 Asajj Ventress?]
#05 R2-D2 - #15 Stormtrooper, #37 Bossk, #61 Anakin (Clone Wars)
#07 Yoda - #16 Ackbar, #42 IG-88, #69 Asajj Ventress
#09 Jabba - #18 Dooku, #43 Emperor, #65 Captain Rex
#12 Clone - #25 Grievous, #51 Slave Leia, #63 Obi-Wan (Clone Wars)

WAVE 2:
#02 Han - #05 R2-D2, #27 Snowtrooper, #40 Jango
#04 Vader - #12 Clone, #30 Tusken, #34 2-1B
#06 Obi-Wan - #03 Leia, #08 Chewbacca, #32 Maul
#10 Battle Droid - #07 Yoda, #22 Anakin (young), #52 Jar Jar Binks
#13 501st - #01 Luke, #25 Grievous, #49 Rancor
#20 Greedo - #21 Sandtrooper, #46 Max Rebo, #54 Kit Fisto

WALMART WAVE 2:
#02 Han - #27 Snowtrooper, #40 Jango, #68 Cad Bane
#04 Vader - #30 Tusken, #34 2-1B, #65 Captain Rex
#06 Obi-Wan - #08 Chewbacca, #32 Maul, #66 Plo Koon
#10 Battle Droid - #22 Anakin (young), #52 Jar Jar Binks, #69 Asajj Ventress
#13 501st - #01 Luke, #49 Rancor, #63 Obi-Wan (Clone Wars)
#20 Greedo - #46 Max Rebo, #54 Kit Fisto, #61 Anakin (Clone Wars)

WAVE 3:
#11 C-3PO - #13 501st, #20 Greedo, #39 Biggs
#15 Stormtrooper - #09 Jabba, #24 AT-AT Driver, #35 Han Carbonite
#17 Gamorrean Guard - #01 Luke, #41 Bib, #60 Amidala (TPM)
#18 Dooku - #07 Yoda, #28 Wicket, #31 Padme
#22 Anakin (young) - #05 R2-D2, #47 Luke X-Wing, #58 Salacious Crumb
#30 Tusken - #03 Leia, #26 Tie Pilot, #44 Qui-Gon Jinn

WAVE 4:
#08 Chewbacca, #12 Clone, #37 Bossk, #55 Ki-Adi-Mundi
#14 Commander Cody, #11 C-3PO, #19 Boba Fett, #50 Ponda Baba
#16 Ackbar, #06 Obi-Wan, #27 Snowtrooper, #36 Cantina Musician

#25 Grievous, #02 Han, #10 Battle Droid, #42 IG-88
#28 Wicket, #04 Darth Vader, #21 Sandtrooper, #48 Sebulba

Below is a complete checklist of Star Wars Beanz, with the ones that have not been found yet highlighted in bold. There are currently 8 known Beanz and 12 unknown Beanz that have not been found. 11 of the unknown Beanz look like they might be in the Clone Wars series judging by the numbering, and adding on the known TX-20, that means Walmart may be getting their own variants of the new waves 3 and 4 with one new Clone Wars Bean in each pack. That would leave one more unknown Bean which could be another not-yet-announced exclusive or maybe one of the Walmart packs will have two Clone Wars Beanz in it. If we're lucky, maybe Walmart will just get one more exclusive wave with 2 or 3 Clone Wars Beanz in each.

COMMON:
#01 Luke
#02 Han
#03 Leia
#04 Darth Vader
