Next James Bond Slated for November 2012

Source: comingsoon.net

November 4, 2010

In the midst of complicated financial restructuring following their bankruptcy claim, MGM has issued plans for the future of their flagship James Bond franchise, reports Bloomberg.

The next, currently-untitled, Bond film is planned for November 2012 and the article claims that sequels will follow every other year.

The 23rd entry in the franchise, the film was originally set to star returning actor Daniel Craig as Bond with Sam Mendes attached to direct. Though it is very likely that Craig will still return, there is not yet a confirmation of Mendes' continued involvement.

It's about time. I wasn't sold on Craig as bond, but I have to say he's been almost as good as Connery in the role. My opinion of course. Hope there aren't any further delays.

I was reading today that Craig souring on the role due to the delay in a next movie going into production and the fact that he now has a high enough profile to be offered other work. But I gotta say I love him as Bond, and being Brit myself, Bond is one of my all time favorite characters and I really liked the shot of adrenaline that the recent movies gave the franchise, and that is in no small part down to Craig's great portrayal. I hope he can be enticed to do a couple more films and finish out the story arc created for his time in the role.

Composer David Arnold Confirms Bond 23 is Back On

Source: comingsoon.net

December 2, 2010

Last month, Bloomberg reported that MGM was planning to release James Bond 23 in November of 2012 following the company emerging from bankruptcy. The article said sequels will follow every other year after that. David Arnold, who has composed the music for five James Bond movies, confirmed the news that the film was back to Film Music Magazine:

I haven't thought about it yet. We only just got the news that we're back on. But 'there’s many a slip twixt cup and lip' So I will keep quiet until I get a script and then start writing ideas. I just hope the next one is as good as my favorites, as I think everyone does. And I'm always interested in what Daniel Craig brings to the part. But like most things with movies, if it ain't on the page etc… All I can say is that I'm looking forward to a great script for it, alongside every other Bond fan in the world!

The above confirms that Daniel Craig will be back, though we're still not sure if director Sam Mendes is still attached.

Winslet Says Mendes is Still Directing Bond 23

Source: comingsoon.net

December 3, 2010

With composer David Arnold confirming his participation and that of Daniel Craig in Bond 23, Kate Winslet says her estranged husband Sam Mendes is still on board to direct as well.

Mail Online says the Oscar-winning filmmaker is expected to start filming the 23rd 007 installment towards the end of next year. Winslet says she will move to the UK with her children during that time so they can be close to their father.

"Sam is doing the next Bond film, all being well, and we'll all be in England if that happens," she said. "It's such a massive commitment for him and it's not fair for him to commute backwards and forwards to New York from London. It would be impossible. The children will be there with me."

The site added that Mendes and producer Barbara Broccoli have had meetings over casting and Broccoli is said to have visited the play "Deathtrap" twice to see Simon Russell Beale perform, who is an old friend of Sam's.

Bond 23 Spies a New Home

Paramount reportedly making moves to get franchise.

January 13, 2011

by Jim Vejvoda

Now that they've lost the distribution rights to Marvel's future movies, Paramount Pictures has reportedly set their sights on a new franchise acquisition: Bond, James Bond.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the currently distributor-free Bond 23 may end up at the home of the Jack Ryan, Indiana Jones and Star Trek franchises.

The trade claims "the lead player would appear to be Paramount Pictures, which -- thanks to a close relationship between the studio's top brass and new MGM co-chairmen Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum -- has informally gotten a first crack at the negotiation. The other contender is Sony Pictures, which successfully released the last two Bond films and is said to be on good terms with the Broccoli family, owner of the Bond rights. Despite that, a knowledgeable source says the Broccolis have approved Paramount as a prospective distributor and that preliminary talks have begun."

Bond 23 films later this year for a November 2012 release.

Judi Dench Returns for Bond 23

Source: comingsoon.net

January 27, 2011

Judi Dench is set to reprise her role as M in the upcoming (and currently untitled) Bond 23, reports James Bond fansite MI6.

Dench herself announced the return at the South Bank Sky Arts Awards in London last night, though she was tight on details, saying only that she was looking forward to a repeat performance opposite Daniel Craig and the chance to work again with Director Sam Mendes (this time in a film rather than on the stage.)

Dench's casting has been one of the longer lasting performances in the Bond franchise, appearing in every film since GoldenEye. The original M was played by Bernard Lee who lasted nine films (Dr. No through Moonraker). The role was then taken over by Robert Brown, who appeared in four (Octopussy through License to Kill).

Bond 23 is expected to enter production soon with a release date of November 9, 2012.

Javier Bardem Offered Bond 23 Role

Source: comingsoon.net

January 30, 2011

Javier Bardem has been offered a role in the upcoming (still untitled) 23rd James Bond film, according to a story at Deadline.

Though the role is unspecified, the article suggests that it is major part and speculation could easily place Bardem as the film's villain. If that is the case, Bardem would mark the second Oscar winner to face off against the secret agent after Christopher Walken in 1985's A View to a Kill.

Currently, Daniel Craig and Judi Dench are confirmed to return for the franchise sequel under Director Sam Mendes. No plot details are currently available, but the script (from Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan) is said to pick up soon after the events of Quantum of Solace.

Whether or not Bardem accepts the offer remains to be seen. He's also rumored to have been offered the lead in Ron Howard's cross-platform adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower. He is currently nominated for an Academy Award for his work in last year's Biutiful.

Javier Bardem Confirms Possible Bond 23 Role

Source: ComingSoon

February 1, 2011

Following word over the weekend that Javier Bardem has been offered a major role in the upcoming (still untitled) 23rd James Bond film, the LA Times spoke with the actor and confirmed that the part in question is, indeed, the film's villain.

"I’d be playing Bond's nemesis, yes," Bardem explains, "but it's not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced. It's very intriguing... They're changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic."

Bardem acknowledges his interest, saying that he's a big fan of the franchise, but will not make a decision until he has the opportunity to read the full script. That said, meetings so far with director Sam Mendes certainly seem to have left him intrigued.

If he takes the role, Bardem would mark the second Oscar winner to face off against the British secret agent after Christopher Walken in 1985's A View to a Kill.

Currently, Daniel Craig and Judi Dench are confirmed to return for the franchise sequel. No plot details are currently available, but the script (from Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan) is said to pick up soon after the events of Quantum of Solace.

Fiennes Also in Talks for a Bond 23 Role?

Source: ComingSoon

February 4, 2011

In addition to Javier Bardem being in talks for a villain role, Mail Online is reporting that Ralph Fiennes is also in discussions to join Daniel Craig and Judi Dench in James Bond 23, to be directed by Sam Mendes.

The site says that they are talking about him playing 'a darkly complex' role. It says "the part is one of extreme complexity and only an actor of great ability and dexterity can take it on — and Ralph's name is top of our list."

Mail Online adds that it's not the same part that Bardem is in talks for.

Fiennes will be seen one last time as Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, opening on July 15.

James Bond May Go to Sony

Distributor of Casino Royale and QoS nears a deal with MGM.

February 8, 2011

Sony Pictures is reportedly closing in on attaining the distribution rights to the James Bond franchise.

Deadline claims that, while other studios still are in pursuit of the franchise, Sony is expected to prevail as it's supposedly given in to more of MGM's demands than not.

According to Deadline, "Sony is agreeing to allow MGM's new leadership to leverage the next Bond pic, and indeed the Bond franchise, to create more cash flow for the reconstituted studio post-bankruptcy. The new brass, Spyglass Entertainment co-owners Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum who are now the Co-Chairmen andCEOs of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, are finishing negotiations to co-finance a number of films with Sony."

One of the films that Sony has reportedly agreed to give MGM a co-financing deal on is The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, starring none other than 007 himself, Daniel Craig.

Roger Deakins May Shoot Bond 23

True Grit's DP may shoot his first James Bond movie.

February 10, 2011

James Bond's newest movie has Oscar-winner Sam Mendes directing, and it might be getting a potential Oscar-winner as its cinematographer.

Roger Deakins, who recently DP'd The Coen Brothers' True Grit, is this close to signing on to Bond 23.

Collider.com recently interviewed Deakins and, when asked what his next project will be, Deakins hinted that he'll "probably do a film with Sam Mendes next." When Collider asked if that meant he was shooting Bond 23, he said, "it might, yeah." *Does happy dance, fires pistols into the air*

Deakins, who has worked with the Coen Brothers on several films, is nominated for an Oscar this year for his work on 2010's True Grit. Deakins is best known for his outstanding photography in such films as The Shawshank Redemption and No Country For Old Men.

The best looking Bond movie ever hits theatres November 9, 2012.

James Bond 23 to Film in November

Source: ComingSoon

March 28, 2011

Judi Dench, set to reprise her role of M, revealed to The Express that Sam Mendes' production of the as-of-yet-untitled 23rd James Bond film is set for production later this year.

"I am going to do the next Bond in November," she says, "I don't know the location yet but hopefully it will be somewhere nice. I can't tell you much more but I do enjoy playing M as she is such a strong character. I like being bossy and my grandson thinks its cool that I'm in Bond."

Depending on the size of her part, Dench's involvement in the film could fall anytime during the production, so cameras could theoretically begin to roll even sooner, though November should serve as a safe ballpark start date until a more exact shooting schedule can be confirmed.

Mendes will work with a script from Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan, eyeing a November 9, 2012 release.
