Pixar Surprises John Lasseter with Cars 2 CameoSource: ComingSoonFebruary 11, 2011 The Associated Press reports that Disney•Pixar surprised the company's chief creative officer John Lasseter with a cameo in Cars 2. The character, pictured below, is a yellow pick-up truck named "John Lassetire." The animation studio registered the character's name to celebrate its 25th anniversary. "It was news to me," said Lasseter, who is also serving as a director on the sequel. "I did not know about that, so I was a little surprised. I ended up voicing this character. It was just one line, but now I have a 'Cars' character. I'm very excited about that. He's a good ol' American pick-up truck, which I think is very appropriate for John Lassetire." Lasseter's character serves as the pit crew chief for a high-profile race car. Cars 2 hits theaters on June 24.

Zac Efron to Star in The Necessary Death of Charlie CountrymanSource: ComingSoonFebruary 11, 2011 Zac Efron is set to star in The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman, a role to which Shia LaBeouf was previously attached, reports The Playlist. The movie is described as follows: Charlie Countryman was just a normal guy... until he fell in love with the one girl who will probably get him killed. When Charlie meets the absolutely irresistible Gabi she’s already been claimed by Nigel, an insanely violent crime boss with a gang of thugs at his disposal. Armed with little more than his wit and naïve charm, Charlie endures one bruising beat down after another to woo Gabi and keep her out of harm's way. Finally his exploits of blind valor create such a mess that he's left with only one way out; to save the girl of his dreams, must Charlie Countryman die?The movie was written by Matt Drake. Dante Ariola was previously expected to direct, but that is no longer the case.

Exclusive Kill the Irishman Banners!Source: ComingSoonFebruary 11, 2011 ComingSoon.net has your exclusive first look at four character banners for writer/director Jonathan Hensleigh's crime-drama Kill the Irishman, starring Ray Stevenson, Christopher Walken, Val Kilmer, Vincent D'Onofrio, Vinnie Jones, Paul Sorvino, Fionnula Flanagan, Laura Ramsey, Steve Schirripa, Linda Cardellini, Bob Gunton, Jason Butler Harner and Robert Davi. Over the summer of 1976, thirty-six bombs detonate in the heart of Cleveland while a turf war raged between Irish mobster Danny Greene (Stevenson) and the Italian mafia. Based on a true story, Kill the Irishman chronicles Greene's heroic rise from a tough Cleveland neighborhood to become an enforcer in the local mob. Turning the tables on loan shark Shondor Birns (Walken) and allying himself with gangster John Nardi (D'Onofrio), Greene stops taking orders from the mafia and pursues his own power. Surviving countless assassination attempts from the mob and killing off anyone who went after him in retaliation, Danny Greene's infamous invincibility and notorious fearlessness eventually led to the collapse of mafia syndicates across the U.S. and also earned him the status of the man the mob couldn't kill. Charlize Theron Joins Ridley Scott's PrometheusSource: ComingSoonFebruary 11, 2011 Charlize Theron is joining Noomi Rapace ( The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, upcoming Sherlock Holmes 2) and Michael Fassbender ( X-Men: First Class) in director Ridley Scott's Prometheus at 20th Century Fox. Scott will produce the June 8, 2012 release with David Giler, Walter Hill and Tony Scott. The initial script was written by Jon Spaihts and has since been reworked by Damon Lindelof and Scott. Story details are being closely guarded, but Scott previously explained the outlines of the film and its genesis as follows: "While 'Alien' was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of 'Alien's' DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn't be more pleased to have found the singular tale I'd been searching for, and finally return to this genre that's so close to my heart."There are still two major roles to be cast in the film.

Horrible's Wingard, Barrett Say You're Next!Source: ShockTillYouDropFebruary 11, 2011 A Horrible Way to Die's Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett are re-teaming for You're Next!Already cast: Ti West and James Ransome. Shooting begins in Missouri this spring and, according to THR, "details the story of the Davison family who come under attack from a group of sadistic murderers during a family reunion getaway. Barricaded in the vacation home, they fight off a barrage of attacks from both inside and outside the house. But the masked killers don't count on the yet to be cast Erin, the young girlfriend of the eldest Davison son whose mysterious past has made her very difficult to kill."So, essentially a scenario we've seen many times before, but with hopefully a twist we've never seen before.

Gore Verbinski on The Lone Rangerby SuperHeroHypeFeb 12th, 2011 "It's sort of 'Don Quixote'"Reteaming with his "Pirates of the Caribbean" leading man for the surreal western Rango, Gore Verbinski marks his first full foray into CG animation. The director spoke exclusively this morning with ComingSoon.net and he offered updates on a few future projects, chiefly another highly anticipated Johnny Depp team-up, The Lone Ranger. "It's sort of 'Don Quixote' told from Sancho Panza's point of view," said Verbinski of the Justin Haythe script, indicating that Depp's Tonto will actually be the main character, "...But it's coming along really great...[It] wouldn't shoot until next year, probably, because Johnny's doing 'Dark Shadows.'"You can check out more of the interview here where he also talks about the BioShock adaptation.

Die Hard 5 Gets Director Noam MurroSource: ComingSoonFebruary 11, 2011 Deadline reported earlier this evening that Bruce Willis' fifth outing as Detective John McClane in Die Hard 5 has scored itself a director in Noam Murro, who is best known outside of the ad agencies for his debut feature Smart People. There have been rumors circulating over the last few months about 20th Century Fox wanting another installment with Skip Woods working on a script, which has been confirmed by the new addition. Although Murro has only directed one film, he has been nominated five times by the GA for his commercials work. Bruce Willis has yet to have signed a deal for a fifth movie but he's shown a lot of enthusiasm for returning to his best-loved franchise. The previous installment Live Free or Die Hard was released in the summer of 2007 and it grossed $383.5 million worldwide. No word yet on who else if anyone might return from that movie. You can read a previous interview ComingSoon.net did with Murro here.

David Slade Taking The Last Voyage of the Demeter?Source: ComingSoonFebruary 11, 2011 David Slade is said to be in talks for The Last Voyage of the Demeter, according to a story at Heat Vision. Set during Bram Stoker's original "Dracula", the script focuses on the ship that transports the vampire from Transylvania. In the original text, the vessel arrives in England with the entire crew missing, save the captain, whose body is found tied to the helm. In the script, screenwriter Bragi Schut is said to take an approach akin to Ridley Scott's original Alien, telling the story from the point of view of the Russian crew and treating the vampire as Scott did the sci-fi terror. While it's noted that the project does not yet have a greenlight (or, even, Slade signed), Ben Kingsley and Noomi Rapace are said to be attached to star in supporting roles with a lead yet to be named. If it is his next project, though, The Last Voyage of the Demeter will mark three vampire films in a row for Slade, following 30 Days of Night and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Michael Rosenbaum Returning for Smallville Finaleby SuperHeroHypeFeb 12th, 2011 Look for Lex Luthor on May 13Don't believe the rumors, Michael Rosenbaum will indeed be back as Lex Luthor for the 2-hour "Smallville" finale on May 13. His deal to return was signed tonight. "It feels like the stars are aligning, literally. We couldn't be more excited about having Michael back," Smallville executive producers/showrunners Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson told Deadline. "And as far as the way he returns … there'll be no doubt about how Lex becomes the great rival in Clark Kent's life. He is the villain of the story.""I'm simply doing it for all of the fans out there who made Smallville the great success it is," Rosenbaum said. "I appreciate all of their passion, their relentlessness and even their threats. Ha ha. I can't wait to hug the old crew back in Vancouver one last time and see all of my old friends once again..... Oh, and for Lex to become the badass he's destined to be."

Hey, Nacho Cerda's Back With I Am LegionSource: ShockTillYouDropFebruary 11, 2011 When The Abandoned arrived on U.S. shores through After Dark Films, things were looking good for filmmaker Nacho Cerda. He had a promising vision and I always wondered where he ran off to. Well, Variety says he'll soon direct I Am Legion - a script written by Hardware and Dust Devil's Richard Stanley. The story is based on an existing comic book of the same name. If the film gets rolling, expect a tale set during World War II that follows a group of commandos on a mission to prevent the Nazis from using a vampire (a 12-year-old girl) to create an army of the undead. Cerda also directed the ballsy short films Genesis and Aftermath.
