I wish I knew a forum that the DC creators actually visited for feedback.
Today they announced that Flashpoint will be: 5 issues. 15 mini series. and a number of specials.
Why should ANY story require 15 mini series ?
Most of the Blackest Night minis were worthless. The two part stories that crossed into the normal books did nothing.
They've gone overboard on this one.

Are any of the "regular" books even going to come out while this is going on? I can't see ANYONE going in for 15+ titles for 3-5 months IN ADDITION to any book they would regularly buy.
I know DC is "committed to the fans" with the $2.99 price point, but this just kinda flies in the face of all that doesn't it?

Except for "Emperor Aquaman" and probably the main series, I won't be picking up any of it.
15 does seem like a lot, though.

I still don't understand what the point of this is anyway.

I think the point is that Geoff Johns had another massive epic in mind, decided to give Flash the same treatment as GL and pitched to DC as the next big cash cow.
Generally Dan and Geoff do whatever they want and we all buy in so I cant see this being any different unfortunately

Except that I skipped every Blackest Night mini. And only bought the BN issues of regular series I was not already reading in order to get the rings.
Brightest Day itself only got me to buy itself. I was buying Flash, Green Lantern, JLA and Birds of Prey anyway. I would have bought any book starring the JLI. As for Green Arrow, after that horrible prior run and Cry for Justice, I'm staying away from Green Arrow for a while.

Well, today's the day. Who bought it? Who didn't? Thoughts? I haven't gone to my LCS yet so I haven't made up my mind as to whether I'm going to get the main book or not. Emperor Aquaman, yes. The Deathstroke mini, yes (mainly because it looks like Aquaman has a big role in it). Beyond that . . . This is a pretty lackluster year for summer events. I'm not too keen on Fear Itself either.

I've decided to just sit this one out and wait for the trades. There are just too many "other" books going along with this outside of my regular reads.
I'm sure once it is collected they will be putting 3 or 4 of those minis into one book and I can read through it all much easier that way.
I'll flip through it quickly in the store and check out some stuff online, but I won't be following along as it happens.

I'm reading the main Flash title but I'm doing so online so they're about 3 releases behind right now. I just read the reverse flash and the flashpoint part 1 issues.

In case you're not aware, you won't be reading Flash much longer. Issue 12 was released yesterday which is the final issue.

Apparently Flashpoint #7 will be Geoff Johns' last Flash story as a writer. Announced on the DC Blog, Johns' is moving on to "other projects" at the conclusion of Flashpoint.
While it doesn't surprise me, it does seem a bit odd since Flashpoint was supposed to be his big Flash Epic to launch the character into the upper eschelon like what was done with GL. I'd have thought he would've wanted to pick up the book for the first 6 or so issues just to get it off and running (no pun intended) on the right foot (again, no pun intended but I just can't seem to help myself).
And, it isn't like it is any big surprise that Johns' will be announcing details about his upcoming Aquaman series at SDCC so why they simply said "other projects" is beyond me ...

I don't think this compares to the GL event at all. That one was interesting to me but Flashpoint I could really care less about.

It doesn't help that I was so disappointed in the conclusion of Brightest Day. Why start another event after that? What's the big Flashpoint ending going to be, the reveal of Tommy the Green Ranger?

This whole storyline just reeks of Ret-Con to me.
It alters Barry' origin and purpose It alters Reverse-Flash's origin and purpose It sets the "definitive" stage for their rivalry and how it affects the DCU (at least until the next writer comes along and re-writes everything...) It brings Barry's mother back to the DCU (is he really that much of a momma's boy that he NEEDS her back? I thought that was the point of Iris)
Everything else that comes out of this is just going to be a "bonus".
At least, that is how it all seems to me.
