Rumor: What's This About A New Evil Dead?

Source: ShockTillYouDrop

July 11, 2011

Dread Central has gotten word that a source close to Bob Murawski (Sam Raimi's longtime editor) has packed his bags for Detroit and is heading there for an Evil Dead project.

Their source says it will be a low budget, down and dirty effort. But what is it, really? Who knows... Dread theorizes it is a fourth film. But, for now, take this all with a grain of salt until something confirmed comes down.

Rami has been in heavy prep on his Wizard of Oz project. He has always said that if a new Evil Dead did come about, he'd want to be close to it. Can't see him just winging something out there. He has also stated that they had a script for a remake gestating in the halls of Ghost House Pictures.

But has he hired someone to quietly do the project on a shoestring budget? We shall see...

Evil Dead Reboot Has a Director

Source: ShockTillYouDrop

July 12, 2011

Things are moving fast in Michigan. Souls are about to get swallowed again.

On the heels of yesterday's Evil Dead news, B-D reports Sam Raimi has found his director for the Evil Dead "quasi-remake."

He has enlisted Federico Alvarez to helm the redo. The fledgling director signed with Raimi in 2009 after Alvarez's short film, Panic Attack, garnered Hollywood's attention.

So, you might say that this was inevitable.

The new Evil Dead has a script and shooting is expected to begin soon on a small budget.

Official: Ghost House Pictures Remaking The Evil Dead

Source: ComingSoon

July 13, 2011

Sam Raimi and original producing partners Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell (who also starred in the original franchise) are gearing up to remake their cult sensation The Evil Dead through their long standing Ghost House Pictures partnership. Raimi and Tapert were such instant fans of Fede Alvarez's short film "Panic Attack" that they set up a blind deal with the filmmaker and through that process have attached Fede Alvarez to write and direct the film. Alvarez wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues. Academy Award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody is currently doing revisions on the draft. Ghost House is committed to renewing the franchise and has the film on the fast track.

Raimi, Tapert and Campbell will serve as producers. Ghost House Pictures partners Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane will executive produce. Nicole Brown and J.R. Young will oversee the project for Ghost House. Lionsgate will handle international sales on the film.

The three producing partners commented, "We are committed to making this movie and are inspired by the enduring popularity and enthusiasm for the 'Evil Dead' series. We can't wait to scare a new generation of moviegoers using filmmaking techniques that were not available to us thirty years ago as well as Fede bringing a fresh eye to the film’s original elements."

Raimi wrote, directed and, along with Tapert and Campbell, produced the original horror classic The Evil Dead that tells the story of five twenty-something friends who become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead. An archaeologist's tape recording reveals that the ancient text was discovered among the Khandarian ruins of a Sumerian civilization. Playing the taped incantations, the youths unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival. The Evil Dead spawned a franchise with the equally successful installments Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness.

Lily Collins Backs Off of The Evil Dead

by ShockTillYouDrop

January 24, 2012

A Variety scribe is reporting actress Lily Collins has bowed out of the forthcoming remake of The Evil Dead. Jeff Sneider broke the news via his Twitter account (the "scoop" has failed to reach Variety's site at the time fo this writing).

He writes, "Again, in case you missed it, LILY COLLINS is OUT of THE EVIL DEAD reboot due to a scheduling issue. Agents, start your engines…" Which now leaves the remake, directed by Fede Alvarez and re-written by Diablo Cody, without a cast.

Collins got her start in feature films with The Blind Side, then she transitioned into Priest and the upcoming Mirror, Mirror. She's expected to do The Mortal Instruments, but I have to wonder if "scheduling issue" means "I don't want to star in a remake of a horror film."

She was supposed to play a character tantamount to Ash (Bruce Campbell's role in the original trilogy).

In the film, five twenty-something friends who become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead.

Shooting is expected to begin sometime this year in New Zealand.

Jane Levy, Bruce Campbell Talk Evil Dead Remake

Source: ComingSoon

February 18, 2012

Very soon, filming will commence on Evil Dead, Fede Alvarez's remake of the Sam Raimi film starring Bruce Campbell. Recently, the redo - which saw Diablo Cody coming in to make a few revisions to the script - faced a bit of a casting switcheroo.

Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror, Priest) dropped out and Jane Levy stepped in.

The Insider spoke with the latter about the film and below you'll find out what she had to say about the project and a brief, spoilery bit from Bruce Campbell himself.

"I'm so excited," , she said. "I'm a big fan of the original. To me it's the scariest movie, ever. But this one is really different. They've changed it a lot, but it's still a pretty gory movie. My mom probably can't see it. As for the tone, I think the humor in the first one came from the special effects of the time. I don't know that they meant it to be funny...this one is not funny. It's definitely dark."

The outlet also spoke to Campbell, who serves as a producer on the film. And while he didn't necessarily say anything new, he did confirm the evil trees will be back this time and "They're not terribly well-behaved this time either," he said.

Evil Dead will shoot in New Zealand for Sony. Lou Taylor Pucci co-stars. Expect more casting news soon.

Evil Dead Takes Jessica Lucas

Source: ComingSoon

March 7, 2012

Another actress looks to be joining the cast of Fede Alvarez's remake of Sam Raimi's Evil Dead. The Hollywood Reporter has word that Cloverfield and "Melrose Place" star Jessica Lucas is close to landing a starring role.

Alvarez would join Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci and Elizabeth Blackmore as five friends holed up at a remote cabin who happen upon the Book of the Dead, unleashing a demonic force that possesses each until only one is left to fight for survival.

Alvarez wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues with Diablo Cody providing revisions. Original producing partners Rob Tapert, Campbell and Sam Raimi will produce while Ghost House Pictures partners Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane will executive produce.

Evil Dead will begin production shortly in New Zealand for an April 12, 2013 release.

Principal Photography Begins in New Zealand for Evil Dead

Source: ComingSoon

May 4, 2012

Principal photography has started for Evil Dead in Auckland, New Zealand and will wrap in early July 2012.

Ghost House Pictures is producing the remake of Sam Raimi's 1981 cult-hit horror film The Evil Dead; the film that effectively launched the careers of Sam Raimi (first three "Spider-Man" films); Rob Tapert (30 Days of Night) and Bruce Campbell, who played the Ash character and was co-producer of the original, now brings them back to produce an Evil Dead for today's audience from a screenplay written by Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues. Executive producers are J.R. Young, Nathan Kahane, Joseph Drake and Peter Schlessel.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) and FilmDistrict have partnered with Ghost House Pictures on a worldwide deal - excluding U.K. and France - for Sony Pictures to distribute the remake of Evil Dead.

In the film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Jane Levy ("Suburgatory") stars as Mia, Shiloh Fernandez (Deadgirl, Red Riding Hood) as David; Lou Taylor Pucci (Carriers) as Eric; Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield) as Olivia and Elizabeth Blackmore ("Legend of the Seeker") as Natalie.

"This cast of burgeoning talent share the same spirit we had when creating the original," says Tapert. "The desire to deliver an unexpected and outrageously scary movie experience for the audience."

Evil Dead marks director Fede Alvarez' feature debut. Originally from Uruguay, Alvarez studied filmmaking and communications, later opening his own production and post production company. In 2005, he won a scholarship to complete a masters in screenwriting in Amsterdam. In November 2009, he posted his four-minute short "Panic Attack!," which became an instant viral internet phenomenon prompting intense interest from Hollywood and Ghost House Pictures in particular.

"We found a brilliant artist in Fede Alvarez. As a director, he understands what makes a story work and how to put the pieces together," says Raimi. "I'm really excited to see this story, that I care deeply about, retold by such a fine storyteller."
