Up until David Tennat, Tom Baker was considered the quintisential Doctor. Of course there are debates between Whovians of who is better or more popular. But that's all a matter of personal preference in the end. I love em all even this new kid.

Nope Ecleston is the same Doctor however the Doctor is supposed to be the last of theTimelords (me personally I ain't convinced), and they don't forget who they were before the regen or after the regen, however yes they do have different personalitys and look (Different Actors), they actually remember everything they have experienced before and who they were before, which in essence who they are now.
