Allan Ward posted this idea on Facebook and it was such a great out of the box idea that I thought maybe we should take this up here and see if we can get our friends at Mattel to do this:
They should make a Barbie with no hair so every little girl fighting cancer can feel beautiful. That comes with a head scarf and donates the proceeds to the cancer foundation.
I personally believe that sales of this doll would surprise everyone and certainly make Mattel look good in the eyes of the public.

I'm sure I remember hearing of there having been other dolls that had the same thing, so as to help children relate and cope with the effects of cancer. But Barbie is such an iconic character that I'm sure this would be a home run should they do it.

We need to keep up the momentum on this with Mattel.
Everyone needs to email, facebook and/or tweet them with the idea. Please.

Can't the just buy LIV dolls? Those all have interchangeable wigs. Seriously- I like that idea. Some of parents in my daughter's class work for Mattel in the Barbie department. I'll make that suggestion to them in the new year.

I will go on record right now saying I WOULD BUY THIS DOLL.
Feel free to quote me. And when the doll gets produced and released make sure you hold me to it.
I'm in.

This is a genious idea and I'm surprised Mattel hasn't thought of it already.

I'm going to be the voice of reason here.
While I'm sure that a hairless Barbie could be a nice tax write off for Mattel, I don't know that they'd sell enough units to make it worthwhile, even as a charitable action. I'm sure girls with cancer really don't care if their dolls have hair or not, any more than paraplegic girls probably wouldn't want to buy a Barbie missing limbs. I don't know that there would be enough of a call for such things from the market that it's aimed at to be more than a 15 second media blip.

If you check, Mattel HAS put out a Barbie in a wheelchair and regularly does special interest dolls including different career choices such as a librarian. What it would do is continue the push towards curing cancer in women.

The pregnant Midge did just that. I worked in retail/ marketing when that media fiasco hit. There were people saying the same thing then. Didn't stop them. When it comes to Christmas time... parents don't give a crap what's in the friggin pink box, as long as it says "Barbie" and it has an official Mattel seal. They release these around Christmas time and no problem...
You've got every speculator... believe me there's a lot of them, who if they saw this on the news would come out and buy five or six... just like they did with Midge... just because they think they would eventually be worth something.
Slap a "Limited" of "Special" release on this puppy and it's pure profit and gold!
The sour poofle is right with one point, it would be a media blip BUT that would be what sells it!
