Yup, they're back.

Or they will be very soon.

What I remember most about Valiant, besides the amazingly tight continuity across all titles, was that they were always the leader in the realm of variant cover possibilities.

And now they are doing it again it seems.

Check out the front page news for Valiant's newest cover gimmick, and c'mon back here to discuss it (and hopefully soon) the actual books themselves....

I love Valiant especially early Valiant! Unity is bar none the BEST crossover!

My favorite Valient book's title escapes me.

They had the ability to each have just one power at a time and they had to "download" them from a satellite.

They worked in squads, so one guy would be the Strength, another the Shield, another Flight, and so on.

It was actually a pretty decent book.

The H.A.R.D. Corps, they existed to fight Toyo Harada and his conspiracy to take over the world... they could mimic Harbinger abilities one at a time, each member was a coma patient who had a chip in their head, if they went rouge, the company could put them back in a coma again!

When I was in high school Valiant was my thing! I won a few gold books over the years. The comic shop I hung out in we threw a Valiant Birthday Party one year!

Image

Valiant was my thing aside from Marvel and DC. I owned every book, every variant, every give-a-way and in 1994, my parents took me to New York and we just dropped in on the Valiant offices and Maurice Fontenot gave me a tour. The secretary wasn't going to let us in but he passed through the hall and I called out his name and said you write "Harbinger, you kick ass!" I met Bob Hall, Bob Layton, Jade Moede and mos of the Valiant bullpen!

I think I submitted material to them once a week! And one of the editors showed interest in a Turok story I wrote and then they were bought by Acclaim Entertainment and it was all down hill from there. They had a freeze on submissions and the company was run into the ground.

Acclaim ruined that company.

I Liked HARD Corps, cool book.

My fav was X-O Manowar, a barbarian who steals a super advanced suit of living armor and takes over a corperation in the modern world. Great book.

I was always saddened by how badly Valiants went, there was such a huge quality and then it tanked, then they tried to start up and kept getting worse and worse the more they rebooted.

I just don't think this will make it this time either.

Besides, Shadowman was supposed to die 11 years ago ;-)

His death in 1999 got resolved in Unity 2000 which sadly never saw completion. Valiant has tried to come back time and time again. It may be true their time is at an end but my God... they were awesome! I loved everything even that crappy parallel universe that Acclaim did... Thank God Jim Shooter returned at the last minute to fix all that with Unity 2000 AD.

Last minute is 5 years after it tanked

Of course I was meaning my shadowman remark as a joke hence the

Still since Unity 2000 never was completed can it actually be counted?

Sure it can, the beginnings of Unity 2000 took place in Shadowman (vol. 3) 4 and 5, I own the scripts for the unpublished issues. Well, 4 and 5. Issue 6 is just notes and I have one page of art work buried somewhere.

I got the joke, I just shift into ultra fanboy mode when it comes to Valiant. Hell, I own the Super Nintendo games for Shadowman and The Armorines.

I absolutely loved Valiant. I hope they can actually make the comeback this time, but man how many times will this be? 6? 7?

Two of my favorite comic stories over all were done by Valiant. Loved Harbinger #25 where Sting fought Harada. Fantastic fight, and so well plotted. And the Magnus vs Rai story was just heartbreaking. The way that thing ended was just incredible.

It's actually the 6th time. There were a few ads years ago in Wizard with an updated Master Darque and a slogan that said "Valiant, Putting the Vile back in Villain." They also had an aborted action figure line which showed up in Previews but never came out. And two years ago they put out the trades for Harbinger and X-O Man-O-War under a new Valiant head mast and wanted to do comics but failed. Now that Dark Horse has Solar, Turok and Magnus I wonder how Valiant would fare today?

Harbinger 25 was an awesome end to that series. What came after was a product of the terrible editorial staff/ lame Acclaim take over.

And do you mean the Rai 4 issue flip-book mini-series (Magnus 5-8) or do you mean the Rai vs Magnus at the end of the Malev War, which was in Rai and the Future Force and Magnus Robot Fighter?

I mean the Rai vs Magnus story. Best friends, Magnus is in love with Leeja, Rai and her have an affair, the two friends reconcile, only for Rai to be taken over by the Queen.

Magnus having to kill his best friend at the end? I don't think I'll ever forget it.

Yup! The end of the Malev War... Magnus snapping a Mind Locked Rai possessed by the Malev Queen who was built from the remains of Grandmother's body in the wreckage of Japan.

Awesome stuff!

Hey, it was my story lol! I loved the entire Valiant line. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY could manage continuity like they could. No one else would even try.

I do have to agree though. Harbinger really should have ended after #25. Everything that came after was a mess.
