Robert Downey Jr. to Voice Peabody and ShermanSource: comingsoon.netJanuary 17, 2011 Entertainment Weekly reports that Robert Downey Jr. has signed to voice Mr. Peabody in a DreamWorks Animation adaptation of the Peabody and Sherman characters from the TV series "Rocky and His Friends" and "The Bullwinkle Show." That's the computerized device used by the talking, genius dog Mr. Peabody and his pet boy, Sherman, on the old Rocky & Bullwinkle Show to travel through time and discover improbable things about history's greatest figures. The project was just announced internally to the DreamWorks staff, with Robert Downey Jr. signed to voice the super-smart, bespectacled canine."Certainly for Boomers, they're in the sweet spot of our childhood animation memories, but beyond there it gets a little bit, well, not quite as familiar," says director Rob Minkoff ( The Lion King). "Mr. Peabody is this genetic anomaly," Minkoff added. "He does have brothers and sisters, all of them non-speaking, no super-smart dogs. He's an outcast, but has overcome it by being so great at so many things." The magazine added that the 3D animated feature, written by Jeffrey Ventimilia and Joshua Sternin, is planned for 2014.

I always thought this was fun as a kid, but I don't know that it will stand up after all this time.
Hopefully, the "moose and squirrel" will make an appearance of some sort, and hopefully it is infinitely better than the previous Bullwinkle movie and the not-quite-as-bad Boris & Natasha movie.

This does bring back some good childhood memories. But at what point do movie studios opt to stay away from nostalgic properties? Retro isn't always good. Actually, sometimes it can be downright awful.

Ty Burrell and Max Charles Take Mr. Peabody & ShermanSource: ComingSoonMarch 15, 2012 Although it was reported last year that Robert Downey Jr. was attached to voice DreamWorks Animation's Mr. Peabody & Sherman, the Marvel's the Avengers star appears to have left the 3D CGI animated project. Based on Jay Ward's classic TV series, Mr. Peabody & Sherman will be directed by Rob Minkoff ( Stuart Little, The Lion King), marking his return to animation after 15 years. Mr. Peabody and Sherman is scheduled for release on March 14, 2014.

Take a First Look at Mr. Peabody and ShermanSource: ComingSoonJune 7, 2012 A first look at the 3D designs for DreamWorks Animation SKG's Mr. Peabody & Sherman have arrived in the pages of the latest issue of License! Global. Check it out below! Based on Jay Ward's classic cartoon, Mr. Peabody is the world's smartest person who happens to be a dog. When his "pet" boy Sherman uses their time traveling WABAC machine without permission, events in history spiral out of control to disastrous and comical results. It's up to this most unexpected of father-son teams to somehow put things back on track before the space-time continuum is irreparably destroyed. Ty Burrell ("Modern Family") and Max Charles ( The Amazing Spider-Man, The Three Stooges) will voice the lead roles of the titular duo in the animated film, scheduled to be released on March 14, 2014.
