Here's a new one...

when a certain someone, forgets to tell you about a very important letter that is now going to cost you 800 dollars instead of the insurance deductible because she was "too busy" to mention it.

I saw this in the other thread and thought I'd bring it over here. People who write checks. I can't remember the last time I wrote one and my wife writes one once in a blue moon. At least if you are going to write one have your $#!@ together. Another thing that bugs me is folks not having a bluetooth headset for their phone when driving. Granted I tend to forget mine, but I also don't answer the phone when I'm on the road either.

This is one of my biggest pet hates too. When I'm at work I will stop someone as soon as I see them on there phone when they're driving and issue a fine. I really hate the arrogance of people using the phone behind the wheel, it's just another example of the 'well I know it's wrong, but it's ok if I do it' attitude that so many people have these days.
If I see someone not wearing a seat belt when driving I tend to think, well, thats up to them. Yes I could write them a ticket but the way I see it, if they crash not wearing their belt then its their own fault when they go through the windscreen. But people on phones when driving will nearly always cause the accidents they are involved in, because their full attention isn't on driving and someone else who is being safe pays the price.

Before mobile phones people used to be able to wait till they got to where they were going between phone calls. No call is so urgent it can't wait till your not driving, and if it is an emergency, then you should at least pull over to talk. But even that isn't necessary if you use a hands free set.

I don't have a problem with hands free. I worked for a cell company about 15 years ago and all of their vehicles came with hands free. Of course they were bought out by Verizon and those idiots couldn't find their own asses with both hands cuffed behind their backs. To me hands free is no different than listening to the radio. It is when you put that piece of hardware up to the side of your face that your attention zone shrinks. If someone on a cell is in my way, as in driving slower than the traffic around them, I will not hesitate to lay on the horn, and I hope the person on the other end hears it.

Well, I guess I'll open up a can of worms:

I use my cellphone all the time while I'm driving. In fact, that's when I use it the most. It makes me much more effective so I can spend my non-driving time doing other things. I use my commute to talk to friends and family on the East Coast and stay in touch.

Fortunately, I live in Arizona where the Nanny state hasn't gotten that bad yet. If you're going to ban cell phones, you might as well ban the radio and talking to your passengers.

Now, I will agree that texting while driving is very dangerous because you HAVE to take your eyes off the road consistently in order to communicate. With a cell phone, it's easy enough to dial somebody while at a red light and talk to them while keeping one's eyes on the road. Unless you're doing A LOT of sharp turns, you don't necessarily need both hands on the wheel at all times.

YMMV.

I hate when I'm in the super market and someone is talking into their Bluetooth! It's almost borderline hysterical to me at times.

I really liked it when they explained Brainiac 5's 12th level intellect. Your level represents how many things you can do at one time, or multitask. They go on to state that the average human is a 3rd level intellect. I tested myself once and I am 3rd level. People who lose their focus while talking on their cell obviously are not able to multitask, and hurt the rest of us by pulling down our average.

LOL.

It's not so much that.

Take a good friend of mine (for instance). I try to have lunch with him at least once every other week. His wife doesn't work, stay at home mom (which I have no issue with). But she's constantly bitching at him saying "you don't have the money to go out to eat"...so sometimes I buy his lunch (no big deal, what's 5 bucks).

2 weeks ago he buys a motorcycle. The guy lives paycheck to paycheck and his wife bitches and moans about a 5 dollar lunch, but somehow buying a motorcycle is okay. Really?

Just stuff like that. Then I read other stories about people not having jobs, being laid off, etc, complaining they can't make ends meet...yet they still go out and buy cigs, other hobby type toys, etc. It just doesn't make sense. Priorities.

Cut back on the wants for the needs until you don't have to do that.

But that would take Common Sense.

And the problem with common sense is that lately . . . it's not so common.

WHich they should do for deaf drivers-- but they dont because thats a civil rights violation.. ASL and driving is worse than drinking and driving...(especially when you are behind to of them arguing while driving....)

I also use my cell in the car-- and dont use a bluetooth-- It doesnt impact my driving (and sure as hell doesnt impact my speed-- (driving at 95% level of road rage keeps you focused -even while other things are going on  )-

My new pet peeve-- all you damn Ipod people that wear the earphones everywhere (like you cant go 4 minutes in a store without listening to your favorites.))-- and then expect everyone else to talk louder to you because you dont want to take the 2 seconds to take them out...

And it used to be a law not to wear headphones while you were driving so you could hear sirens and the like-- when the hell did that rule get thrown out- I swear 1 in 3 people I pass everyday have both of them in at all times.. (get a freaking adapter to play it through your radio ----)

The law never went away, it just isn't enforced. It's like those old laws about waliking in front of a car with a lantern from a century ago...

I agree with you on the earbud thing. It's wouldn't be bad if they were listening to a book on tape or something productive. But it's usually some crap music...
