... what possibilities does this open up for Mattel and other figure lines? Will we see a MOTU style Batman? A JLU style He-Man? There is a REAL opportunity here for Mattel.

I don't think they'll stray out of the Masters Universe at all with that comic.

You're point? Just under ten years ago there was a Superman and Thundercats. The need for tie-ins and making everything part of one coherent fanboy universe is still rampant.
I wouldn't be surprised if Masters of the Universe was more like an updated version of Mike Grell's Warlord by DC but using the Masters of the Universe backdrop. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see Pandora chilling with the Sorceress and Sorceress telling her how bad she's messed up.

My point being that DC just revamped their entire universe. Why would they bother having Superman show up in Eternia? I think the ONLY reason they're doing this is to get people to buy their toys and to provide collectors with a visual medium for those lengthy bios they're building up.

And I'd be willing to bet that after this limited series (which will be, what, six issues?), it'll go away and never be heard of again.

Depending on how that six issue thing sells will determine if it comes back. But I would slap some money down that says we'd see a Superman shot if it goes the distance.

Looking at the trends in writing in "the new 52" I wouldn't be surprised if the story had:

- a new villain who turns out to be a long lost sibling
- someone or some thing getting its face peeled off (seriously, what a weird trend in DC these days)
- a reference to the wildstorm properties
- a secret shadowy government organization is out to get He-Man
- a trip to Gotham City.

Or, you know, the standard stuff.

- Skeletor broods in snake Mountain until he has a new plan to stael the sword of power
- Beast Man acts like a toadie but is really trying to steal Skeletor's throne
- Orko makes things worse and then better
- Teela does an summersault in the air.

:P

So long as this leads some "generic company" to get the old MOTU molds and re-release all those long forgotten Warlord figures, I don't care how they handle the story.
:P

The other thing I am wondering about is ...
I thought Dark Horse is doing the Mini-Comics that will be included in the upcoming figures. Why the sudden shift to DC? Is it a "thrown bone" back to Warner's since they've tanked on DC toys this year? Have there been problems between Matty and Mike Richardson? Am I just thinking way too much about something I really have no interest in?

With DC publishing a He-Man comic, that kinda makes MOTU a "DC property"...

...so my guess is Mattel will soon be cancelling Masters of the Universe Classics. :D

Well, MOTUC definitely doesn't have much retail support, and that's the popular excuse lately. :P

But when MOTUC is inevitibly cancelled, maybe there's still hope that Mattel will offer it as a Mattycollector.com exclusiv--oh wait. Nevermind.
