Okay, okay, I know already. JLU is dead after this year is up, BUT...
As I add customs to my collections in JLU, TNBA, and B.Beyond to complete the gaps left behind, I wonder to myself if I should streamline my collections by getting rid of the non-show characters, and the non-show variants.
What are your views on collecting customs and getting rid of non-show stuff?

What are your views on collecting customs and getting rid of non-show stuff? I get customs to supplement my collection, but I would never get rid of the non-show characters. Plenty of them were in the JLU comics, and you never know what DC properties you'll find interesting later. Also, a lot of those characters may show up in future animated features. While it won't be JLU, Timm is still turning out projects. If Green Lantern animated comes out with a compatible line, I'm putting it in my collection, who knows who might show up on that cartoon. Bottom line, I'd keep them.

Like jzach said, I'd keep the non-show characters for all the reasons he listed. As far as customs, there are tons of figures in several different lines I would've liked to have seen produced but so far I've managed to stay away from customized figures simply because I know once I go down that slope, that'll be where I'm spending all my money. People put a lot of work into customs and time/effort isn't cheap. I also view customs as "extras" and not part of the original line so it's a little easier for me to avoid them than the non-show characters. If I was to drop one or the other, it'd be the customs. That being said, there are some amazing customs out there that sometimes look better than the legit toys.

I don't collect just to get rid of something. Although I am far from a completist, I don't like breaking up my collections. I keep what I have or I sell the whole thing.

Im not parting out non-show figures. Just not happening. On top of that most of the customs Ive added are non-show as well. Theres too many vilians/characters I like in the DC universe that I like more than some of the cameo'd vilians I could pick up/have made that were "in" the show. Dont get me wrong at some point Id like to add them too, but for the coin Id have to drop to commission them Id rather have a character I really like as opposed to a 3rd rate vilian. Once Im out of the characters I prefer then I will move to those bit players.
And j1h1, I like the JLU Beyond, granted its only 2 (soon to be 3) books into the series. Im curious to see what direction they take it.

I think that the series in print is a collection of stories that were available digitally first in several parts. I figure I'll wait for a collection so I don't miss anything. I'm glad to hear that BFantana likes it. As for this thread's main topic, I'm all for non-show characters in the collection if you like the characters or they just look cool. I am totally against pointless variants though, such as any "tracksuit" JL members (aside from Shayera of course)!

MisterMiracle, It just started in Feb. If Im talking about the same series of books its actually called "Batman Beyond Unlimited". Its Terry McGinnis' Batman along with Superman, Big Barda, Warhawk etc in that "future" JLU we got a glimpse of in JLU and Batman Beyond shows. Book # 3 comes out tomorrow. So not too late to jump in.

I wondered about picking these up originally, but now I keep the non-show or comic accurate figures in their own little spot on the shelf.

I've never understood the obsession with show vs non-show characters.
It did make sense to me when folks wanted show characters to get priority over non-show characters when the line was going, but after the fact I always thought it should be treated as one big DCU. The idea of phasing out non-show characters depresses me! I would've hoped that the tremendous success of the animated series would've led more folks back to the source material to find new loves there.
