Deadline reports that Twentieth Century Fox has set David James Kelly to rewrite the script for the Daredevil reboot to be directed by David Slade (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, 30 Days of Night).

April 27, 2012

Following the two new posters last week, we've received this new international poster for The Amazing Spider-Man, thanks to 'RealIrOnMaN'.

Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on July 3, the Marc Webb-directed action adventure stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen and Sally Field.

The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

Exclusive: Chloe Moretz Offers a Carrie Update

Source: ComingSoon

April 28, 2012

Already a familiar talent to horror fans for her vampiric turn in Matt Reeves' Let Me In, Chloe Moretz teams with director Tim Burton for the upcoming Dark Shadows and ComingSoon.net had a chance to speak with the young star. We'll have the full interview available soon, but we also got a few details about Moretz's upcoming role as the titular Carrie in Kimberly Peirce's big screen remake.

"I start that June 1st," says Moretz. "...It's going to be very well done. I don't want to jinx it, but [Peirce] is a genius, genius, genius director. I would never do it with someone that I don't trust. I trust her more than a lot of the directors I've worked with. She's the right woman for the job."

Released in 1974, "Carrie" was Stephen King's first published novel and tells the story of a high school girl who, through telekinetic powers, takes revenge on peers that have mocked her. Though Brian De Palma directed a highly-acclaimed film version in 1976, Moretz says that Peirce's take sticks more closely to King's text.

"I'm actually not looking at the original," she says, "even though De Palma's movie was one of the best movies ever made. It's completely iconic and I'm proud to be able to be doing a retooling of it. We're kind of going off the book. It's darker and much more psychological. More 'Black Swan.' You're really looking into her mind and it really looks into the relationship of Margaret and Carrie. It's set in modern time, so it's a lot different."

The role of Margaret White (Carrie's mother) was played by Piper Laurie in De Palma's version, earning the actress an Academy Award nomination. Last week, word broke that Julianne Moore had been offered the part for the new film.

Most intriguing of Moretz's comments about the upcoming project was the hint that her Carrie White would offer a very different look for her, physically.

"It's something that's very different from me," Moretz says of Carrie's wardrobe. "It's an out of body thing. I'm becoming a totally different person for it. I'm letting go of all of my self-esteem issues and just kind of going into it. You have to."

Although shooting won't begin for another month, Moretz and Peirce have already been impressed with the outpouring of fan support and, in particular, the fan-made poster pictured below. Designed by Pierre-Luc Boucher, the teaser was posted to his Deviant Art page and soon found its way to Peirce.

"That was a cool poster!" Moretz laughs. "Kim sent that to me. She said, 'Oh my god, you've got to look at this. It's really, really, really cool!' We both felt so pumped. Now we're chomping at the bit to get in there."

Carrie is scheduled for release on March 15, 2013. Check back for updates as they become available and catch Dark Shadows in theaters on May 11th.

Box Office Stalls at Home while Avengers Dominates Overseas

Source: Box Office Mojo, ComingSoon

April 29, 2012

The ComingSoon.net Box Office Report has been updated with studio estimates for the weekend. Click here for the full box office estimates of the top 12 films and then check back on Monday for the final figures based on actual box office.

After months and months of movies overperforming, the domestic box office took a major hit as four new movies were released with only one of them cracking the Top 3, something that we haven't seen in quite some time. It was also the first time since January that no single movie brought in more than $20 million.

Meanwhile, Marvel's The Avengers was released overseas as "Avengers Assemble" into 39 territories (roughly 70% of its international run), and has brought in $178.4 million since opening on Wednesday. It opened at #1 in every single one of those territories while setting opening weekend records in many South and Central American countries where it opened. Some of the individual numbers include $24.7 million from the UK, $19.7 million from Australia, $15.9 million from Mexico and $12.9 million from Korea. The movie opened in 94 IMAX locations worldwide, pulling in $5.6 million (the highest gross for a Marvel IMAX title internationally), averaging $59,256 per location.

By comparison, Peter Berg's Battleship, which also has yet to be released in North America, has grossed $170 million internationally after two and a half weeks of release compared to Avengers making more than that in just five days.

Back in North America, Screen Gems' ensemble comedy Think Like a Man, based on Steve Harvey's bestselling book, remained on top with $18 million in its second weekend, down just 46% from its impressive debut last week. It has grossed nearly $61 million in ten days, nearly twice its production budget.

Taking a surprising second place based on estimates is Aardman Studios' stop-motion animated The Pirates! Band of Misfits (Sony), which opened in the most theaters among the new movies, over 3,350 theaters, which helped it do the strongest business among the new movies, bringing in an estimated $11.4 million to take third place. Like with so many other movies, Pirates! opened internationally before its American release and its debut in North America and a couple other countries this weekend brings its global gross to $75.1 million.

Based on the early estimates, the Nicholas Sparks adaptation The Lucky One (Warner Bros.) starring Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling, drops to third place with $11.3 milllion, down 50% in its second weekend. It has grossed just south of $40 million in ten days.

The biggest movie of 2012 so far, Gary Ross' adaptation of The Hunger Games (Lionsgate) added another $11.2 million for a very tight fourth place, although we could see positions two through five rearranged once we get actuals on Monday. Either way, it's grossed $372 million domestically in five weeks, which makes it the 18th highest-grossing movie of all time. It should end up somewhere in the Top 13 by next month even if the North American release of The Avengers takes some of the wind out of its sails.

Expected by many to give Think Like a Man a run for #1, Nicholas Stoller's relationship comedy The Five-Year Engagement (Universal), starring Jason Segel and Emily Blunt, opened with a somewhat disappointing $11.1 million for fifth place despite having the highest per-theater average of the four new movies.

It was followed by two genre movies geared mainly towards guys, both opening in roughly 2,300 theaters. Jason Statham's action-thriller Safe (Lionsgate) was able to come out on top, taking sixth place with $7.7 million over the John Cusack-starring Edgar Allan Poe horror-thriller The Raven (Relativity Media) which opened in seventh place with $7.2 million.

Disneynature's Chimpanzee took eight place with $5.5 million, down 49% from its opening Earth Day weekend, having grossed $19.2 million to date.

Ninth and tenth place went to Twentieth Century Fox's The Three Stooges and Lionsgate's The Cabin in the Woods with $5.4 and $4.5 million respectively. They've both grossed in the $35 million range since opening three weeks ago with Three Stooges still slightly ahead.

Opening in just three theaters, director Richard Linklater's reunion with his School of Rock star Jack Black for the true-life crime-comedy Bernie (Millennium Entertainment) brought in roughly $90 thousand, a terrific $30 thousand per location. By comparison, Zal Batmanglij's intriguing festival favorite drama Sound of My Voice (Fox Searchlight), starring Brit Marling, Christopher Denham and Nicole Vicius, only grossed $40 thousand in five locations.
