Anyone else read this today? I was very surprised at the way it played out and I'm not sure how I'm going to like the direction they took but it was certainly interesting.

I did. Not a fan of the JSA characters not being Golden Age anymore.
I miss the old DC.
Really thinking about quitting most of my DC titles.

I don't like that either but it's better than them not existing I guess. I was surprised that the trinity died in the first 10 pages though

Trinity being Bruce, Kal, Diana making way for Dick, Donna, and ??? or Trinity being Dick, Donna and whoever so there just isn't a trinity at all anymore?

I miss the old DC as well.
I didn't see the beginning coming. Since they were making a big deal out of the designs of Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman. At this point what did it matter anyway. What I don't like is the age of these characters, Alan and Jay. I know, I know they had to be young at some point but I'm a fan of seeing these older heroes in their twilight years still kicking ass!
I'm also not a fan of where Jay's origin is heading...

Don't hate me, but I kinda like that premise. Those particular characters have been a "crutch" in the DCU for a long time. It'll be interesting to see how things develop without them.
Kinda like JLA: The Nail, which was a hell of a story.

Yeah, sorry. It was a question? Without having read the issues (which I probably won't do until the eventual trade hits) I'm not sure who the players were I have no point of reference if I'm supposed to be surprised or not... so ... Is the Trinity Dick/Batman, Donna Troy/Wonder Woman and ???/Superman and they were killed off or is it Bruce/Batman, Diana/Wonder Woman, and Kal/Superman that were killed and are replaced now by Dick, Donna, and whoever? Maybe that is clearer?

Gotcha. That's what I thought you meant but I wasn't sure. Major story spoilers under the tags.... So far, Bruce, Diana and Kal were the trinity I was referring to and they were killed in the opening of the book. Helena Wayne is Robin, Karen Staar is Supergirl but they are transported to Earth 1 and eventually become Huntress and Power Girl. That's the other new book World's FInest and wasn't bad either. I love the way they're writing Huntress and bought her entire 6 run book. Anyway, the only other people we meet are Alan Scott and Jay Garrick. Neither of which have their powers yet. Alan looks to be late 20's, early 30's and a business mogul. Jay is 21, fresh out of college and met the god Mercury at the end of the book. The next two issues introduce Flash and GL.

Actually enjoyed it. Didn't think I would, and they didn't really explain where the rest of the heroes were, but it was done far better than I expected. I'll be sticking around for a while at least. Still want my proper JSA book back though.

If that's the case J1 - then it doesn't make sense to me. Surely those weren't the only 5. Even during WWII in comics, people slipped on masks and did their best. That'd be a pretty lame copout. Better to say they were killed or something before the final assault.

We'll probably learn more about what has come before the start of the series as time goes on.

From my understanding about what I've read from the creators, Either Earth 2 felt like it was enough to only have those 5 or the universe wasn't yet old enough to have bred any other heroes.
