My first comic book ever was XMen 91 or 92, the reprint of the death of Professor X, which turned out later to be the Changeling in disguise. My next XMen was 113 or 114, the intro of Weapon Alpha. I still remember the scene of everyone cramming in the front door and Wolverine thinking "I gotta get outta these alien threads." That was my intro to him.

Heh, that issue was incredibly influential on the development of Wolverine.

Neither Chris Claremont or Dave Cockrum liked him very much, and he probably would have been written out of the series eventually if not for John Byrne going to bat for a fellow Canadian. Byrne made several attempts to humanize Wolverine, who till this point in the series had been pretty much an unrepentant jerk. His simple idea that Wolverine went around hunting animals without killing them went on to be echoed by other writers for decades.

Yeah Cockrum loved Nightcrawler and Byrne loved Wolverine.
Claremont talks about this on the Stan Lee creator videos from the 90's when he interviews Claremont.

Somebody must have loved Storm and Colossus as well because they stuck around for several decades. Along with Wolvie and 'Crawler, these were the New X-Men's "Big Four" for the longest time.

My first issue of the book was #175, around three years after I began reading superhero comics. I was never a fan of the team in comparison to the Avengers and JLA/JSA but I dug both Angel and Iceman a lot. Wish they'd made it into the Avengers like the Beast did before them.

While I completely agree that a red-blue X-Factor #5 Beast would be preferable to Sinister for that pack, the furry blue SHS Beast is good enough for me. Other than that, this pack is EXACTLY what I have been hoping for. I'm so excited for this. I've even held off on the Gambit/Sinister pack for some reason, so this pack is extra awesome for me!

Storm was undoubtedly Claremont's favorite. He loves his strong women.

And Colossus is just a great mainstay. He didn't get any particularly great uses in his last few years before leaving the first time, but it took a long time for him to leave. There's nothing not to like about him. :)

Colossus has always been my favorite X-Man. He's easily the team's heart aside from being their resident strongman. His role in the first Secret Wars series showed that he could carry himself on his own or even on another team such as the Avengers.

A third classic Angel variation and the single carded one isn't out yet. Wish they'd completed the set with Beast instead of Sinister, though.

Can you define the 3? I heard there was a blue and red suit version in the mu singles but maybe they decided to do the blue in the singles and red in this pack?

Is the sinister the same as the comic pack?

Does the apocalypse look different from the single?

I hate multi-packs as it is bad enough trying to find decent paint on one but it gets worse as the number increases.

No, from here on out, Hasbro needs to commit to using the newer sculpted bodies. They have at least 4 now. They can spend a little more money on tools and give us all new sculpted heads using the Cyclops body, taller guys and gals using the new Herc and She-Hulk bodies and new females using the new Medusa body, younger females could use the X-23 body and larger guys using the Cable body that had to be retooled into Tiger Shark. The Hood figure which is rumored on the Fwoosh to be coming, would need to use the new Prof X body. There should be no reason to even see a repaint on the older stubbed bodies for females or males.

I think Hasbro is going to do all three suits, one white/blue and two white/red.

They are as follows:

"After a battle, Warren was found unconscious in the Savage Land and given this new suit by a mysterious benefactor, who was none other than Magneto. [X-Men (1st series) #62] It was only later discovered that the costume was slowly leeching off Warren’s mutagenic energies for Magneto to use. [Avengers (1st series) #111] With the equipment disabled, Warren continued to wear the outfit."

Image

So Magneto gave Warren the white & blue costume with the halo symbol. It was designed by Neal Adams during his run on the series. This is the one Hasbro is releasing with Wave 20, except they added white boots.

"Shortly before the Champions had their first press conference, Warren’s costume was torn in a fight. His agent tried to replace it but, by accident, he came up with a version of the Angel’s former costume and the colors were wrong too. [Champions #8] As time was of the essence, Warren had no choice but to wear it, and eventually came to like it. While he was serving the Champions and later on helping out the X-Men, he wore the outfit with yellow gloves and boots. The version presented here (white gloves and boots) is from his days among the Defenders."

Image

The white/red version with white boots is supposedly the Wave 20 variant. The boots were pointy but Hasbro will likely go with straight edges. (For a proper Claremont/Byrne take on Warren's brief time with the X-Men after Phoenix's death, Hasbro only needs to give the figure yellow gloves and pointy boots.)

"Long months later, when the original five X-Men reunited, they came up with the idea of X-Factor. To the media, they acted as a mutant hunting group, while secretly they were trying to help mutants to handle their powers. Warren wore a backpack that to the public seemed like an important piece of equipment, while actually it was meant to hide his wings. In situations that required the use of their powers, the team used the cover identities of the X-Terminators along with a new set of costumes. [X-Factor #1-2]"

Image
This is the X-Factor boxed set exclusive. It's easily distinguishable from the previous two due to the huge X across each member's torso. In Warren's case, it replaced the more iconic halo.

As for the villains, Sinister is more bluish than the two-pack version which I would define as metallic black. Apocalypse looks to be a lighter blue than his carded counterpart from last year.

Cool, thanks for the link to the X-men Lt. Clutch. I'm still very new to Marvel but lacking very badly on the X-men.

I second the thanks, Clutch. While I knew about the different appearances to those costumes, I didn't know the story behind the first two. I will say that the original X-Factor costumes remain my favorites for all of those characters.

Anytime, guys. Always a pleasure to help.

I do like those early X-Factor costumes. They're kinda cool in their uniformity but far more colorful than the original, pre-graduation X-Men suits.

I'd like to see an X-Factor Angel with removable wings that can be replaced with his backpack. Or that would require the blue 'X-Factor Mutant Hunter' uniform.

I have been making a list of customs I want to make from Angel, like Red Raven, Condor from New Warriors, and Blue Eagle from Squadron Supreme. I also need a She Hulk for Power Princess.
