Okay, DCUC lasted 20 waves with a plethora of store exclusives for various retail chains and convention exclusives.
My question is this... when did it become a Super Friends/ Super Powers/ Galactic Guardians homage line?
Was it always intended for that or did it evolve into that by the end of was it sheer coincidence?
One could argue it appears that way simply because all the main characters were in the Super Powers line. This is true but Mattle started doing figures like Tyr and Cyclone as well as other Super Powers only characters. Also the Super Powers variants like with Cheetah. Then we got the Wonder Twins and Gleek at SDCC one year.
What was next, Wendy and Marvin?
Not to mention how one wave just knocked out almost all the Super Friends/ Galactic Guardians heroes with an Apache Chief BAF to boot.
So am I just imagining this or is it what the line was intended to be?

Well the Super Powers influence was mixed in from almost the beginning of the line. The 4HM are big fans of the Super Powers, I would for sure say by series 8 which had the Super Powers Parademon in it along with the comic one.

I think it was planned (or an idea in their heads) from the start. The 4H and people at Mattel (for sure ToyGuru) wanted to do versions of all the Super Powers figs.

It was a theme at least about a third or so of the way in and it just got worse (IMO) as the line went along. I can't believe we got Morts like Vigilante, Kamadi, Goldern Pharoh, and the Dunder Twins before Huntress, Wally West, or Mera.

Yea, they wasted a lot of retail slots on the Super Powers losers. I know some people wanted them but NONE of them sold well in my area.

Yeah that Apache Chief wave pretty much sits on clearance in my area too. I think that was the mistake, making a whole wave based on it. As cool as an idea s it is (I love the show, it has a place in my heart which helped get those characters where they are today) it wasn't a really slick move. Now, one figure a wave, I think they could have gotten away with.

I'm still finding Samurais and Black Vulcans occasionally.

Samurai is the only wave 18 in abundance around here (along with all of the Kamandis, Cyborgs and Captian Colds...)
