The Dark Knight Rises: Biggest 2D Opening of All Time?

Box office tracking suggests a better opening that The Dark Knight.

by Max Nicholson

July 9, 2012

Ready for another round of wall-to-wall packed movie theaters? New pre-release tracking predicts Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises could very likely surpass the $158.4 million opening of The Dark Knight, which had the biggest three-day domestic debut of all time when it opened.

Rises will be hitting theaters on July 20, the same debut weekend as The Dark Knight in 2008. To this day, TDK remains the top domestic opener in terms of 2D feature films. Since then, two 3D pics -- this summer's The Avengers and last year's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 -- have taken the No. 1 and No. 2 spots with $207.4 million and $169.2 million, respectively.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, TDKR's overall tracking numbers come close to The Avengers,' but the latter had an added boost of 3D ticket sales. However, Nolan's final Bat-chapter will also screen in several hundred IMAX theaters, which charge at a premium. (Over an hour of the movie was shot using IMAX cameras.) What's more, the film clocks in at 164 minutes -- 21 minutes more than The Avengers and 12 more than The Dark Knight.

Females are reportedly less interested in seeing The Dark Knight Rises than The Avengers, but Warner Bros. still has two weeks to court this demo.

Comics: Witness the Death of Daredevil

by SuperHeroHype

July 10, 2012

The Brian Michael Bendis series originally announced over five years ago is finally coming to fruition. "Daredevil: End of Days" tells what is in a way the 'last Daredevil story'.

"This takes place in the not-too-distant future and we get to see what the Marvel Universe may look like," said Bendis, "In the vein of Daredevil, it's a more realistic future. In the very first issue, some very large things happen, including Daredevil's very public murder, which sends Ben Urich on his final assignment, once again telling the story of Matt Murdock."

The series will be written by Bendis and David Mack with art by Klaus Janson and Bill Sienkiewicz with Alex Maleev providing covers and interiors.

"We wanted to get a lot of people associated with Daredevil through the years together on one book and use it as the culmination of our passion for this character," said Janson "We see almost every character who has been associated with Daredevil through the years as well."

Some of the characters teased that Johnson mentioned are Bullseye, The Punisher, Kingpin, and a soccer mom Elektra.

No exact release date or how many issues the series will run but it is set to begin this October.

The special will have its world premiere screening at Comic Con in San Diego on July 12, where all six of the Batmobiles from film and television will also appear for the first time together.

From its inception in the late 1930s, the Batmobile has been a symbol of power, hope and justice, as well as the pinnacle of technology as the most awe-inspiring weapon in Batman's arsenal. July 10, 2012

Filmmaker Richard Raaphorst is in post-production on his highly anticipated Frankenstein's Army and he'll be speaking to us and other member of the press about his production at the San Diego Comic-Con this week. To spread the word about the film, a series of propaganda posters and Raaphorst used his Twitter account to reveal the first poster.

The image features the film's "zombots" and Viktor Frankenstein, as played by Karl Roden. Dark Sky Films will release the project in 2013. Head inside for a look!

Frankenstein's Army takes place toward the end of World War II, as Russian soldiers push into eastern Germany and stumble across a secret Nazi lab, one that has unearthed and begun experimenting with the journal of one Dr. Viktor Frankenstein. The scientists have used the legendary Frankenstein's work to assemble an army of super-soldiers stitched together from the body parts of their fallen comrades - a desperate Hitler's last ghastly ploy to escape defeat.

Comic-Con: New Photo From Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim

by SuperHeroHype

July 10, 2012

Following the Comic-Con poster for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, Warner Bros. Pictures has released another photo (via USA Today) from the Legendary Pictures project opening July 12, 2013. The new pic again features Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi.

In the film, legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, start rising from the sea and begin a war that would takes millions of lives and consumes humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
