Just saw this on Paul Dini's Twitter: Quote: @Paul_Dini - Earlier today, I was ejected from the Mattel line at comic con for trying to buy the Polly Pocket Harley Quinn figure.
@Paul_Dini - Booth person said "You're a pro. You have to come back tomorrow. We're only selling to attendees." ME: "Well, I'm attending, aren't I?"
@Paul_Dini - Kicked out. Oh well, to eBay. What the heeeeeck?

So Mattel didn't bother to comp the CREATOR of the character? Classy as always, Matty.

He took it in good humour, but still, what a bizarre scenario!

Eh I'm just gonna say fball that in this case they could and SHOULD have made an exception. He freaking. CREATED. The character. Nothing more needs to be said.
He shouldn't even have had to stand in the line.

And I do believe they mean that ruling so that Dealers can't jump in line and then sell those items at the show. I would say Creative Talent counts as Attendees.

I think the whole scenario shouldn't have happened in the first place and that Mattel should have a system in place where creators should be sent an advanced product of the characters they created in the first place. Do you think George Lucas ever had to stand in line at Toys R Us to buy a Yoda figure? NO!

EVERYTHING and has a final say on everything and sees everything, I think that's a bad example... but I see your point.

not saying I agree with it lol, thats just their company stance on those exclusives, far as I know lots of companys do that
but I do disagree that he shouldnt have to stand in line, if he wants to buy stuff like a fan, then he should act like a fan and really why he should always be sent anything and everything that is created using Harely? that seems a bit much. (which I am assuming he does too, hence he offered to pay for it)
Now if it was the very first item ever made, id get it, but Im sure its not common practice for every company that pays a licensee fee to make toys/products, for them to send out samples to the people that created every single character

I'm overcome with an overwhelming sense of not caring very much.

Good for Mattel employees, they followed the rules. Who cares who or what this guy did or that he co-created the character. Come back and stand in line when it is your turn.

Reminds me a bit of Britney Spears being allowed to cut in line at Disneyworld ahead of people who had spent months saving up money to vacation there. I think some people have a lot of nerve. Not saying Dini is one of them but there was really no need to write a blog post on something so trivial.

Well there is a difference between waiting in line like everyone else and cutting ahead of line. I think cutting ahead is some bullshit that should be dealt with
