The River Producer to Write Paranormal Activity 4

Source: ComingSoon

March 15, 2012

Heat Vision is reporting that "The River" producer Zack Estrin will write the script for Paranormal Activity 4 at Paramount Pictures. The film is scheduled to hit theaters this October 19 still.

ABC's "The River" is also executive produced by "Paranormal Activity" producer Jason Blum and the franchise's creator, Oren Peli. Estrin has worked as a writer and co-executive producer on "Prison Break" and as a writer on "No Ordinary Family."

Paranormal Activity 3 directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman are expected to return, but the trade says their deals are not finalized yet.

The first film in the franchise cost about $15,000 to produce and earned $193.4 million worldwide in 2009. It was followed by the second film in 2010 which received $177.5 million worldwide on a budget of just $3 million. The third film, made for $5 million, took in $206 million worldwide last year.

Paranormal Activity 4 Begins Filming

Paramount's found-footage follow-up still on track.

by Max Nicholson

June 19, 2012

We haven't heard much from Paranormal Activity 4 in a while, but it sounds like its all smooth sailing for Paramount's found-footage horror franchise.

Studio System News reports that principle photography began for the film last week. Paranormal 3 helmers Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman have returned to the directors' chairs and are shooting from a script by Zack Estrin (The River, Prison Break). Plot details remain under wraps.

Paranormal Activity 4 is still on track for an October 19 release.

Paranormal Activity 4 Has a Cast Member

by ShockTillYouDrop

June 25, 2012

Did you forget that there is a Paranormal Activity 4 in the works? I know, I sometimes forget, too. After all, the team behind the series keep things so quiet during production, the buzz surrounding the project seems to drop off the radar until the film is ready to be screened. Today, however, some casting news has hit the web.

According to Bloody-Disgusting, Matt Shively has joined the cast of the sequel directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Paranormal Activity 3, Catfish). Shively will play the role of "Alex" - but a lot of good that information does us considering the plot is under wraps.

Shively starred on the Nickelodeon series True Jackson, VP.

The fourth chapter in the Paranormal series hits October 19th.

A Paranormal Activity 4 Trailer is Coming Sooner Than Expected

by ShockTillYouDrop

July 24, 2012

Just yesterday, one of our regular reader who follows our Twitter feed asked when a trailer for Paranormal Activity 4 was coming. I speculated likely end of August/early September. The sequel, which opens on October 19th, has been flying under the radar for some time now - as Paranormal Activity films are wont to do. But we have now received rumblings that a preview is on the way...

A one minute and forty-two second trailer has received its rating and is cleared for release. We're guessing it might ride on the head of Total Recall, opening August 3rd.

Yes, this is a silly, hit-whore of a story, but it answers some questions for those PA fans out there.

Still no word on what the next chapter is about, of course.

The Trailer for Paranormal Activity 4 is Online!

Source: ComingSoon

August 1, 2012

After a few days of teasing, Paramount has finally released (via iTunes Movie Trailers) the trailer for Paranormal Activity 4, opening October 19th.

This entry is once again directed by Paranormal Activity 3 helmers Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. Boasting the tagline "All of the activity has led to this" it appears the series is back on the forward momentum track, picking up where part two left off (three, as it turned out, was a prequel).

Paramount Pictures has also announced that Facebook fans can determine which 25 cities around the world with receive early screenings of the fourth installment. You can check out the trailer and announcement below!

Fans of "PARANORMAL ACTIVITY" are being empowered to bring the movie to their city first. Paramount Pictures, a division of Viacom, Inc., will debut the fourth installment in the popular horror franchise exclusively in 25 cities around the world by encouraging fans to vote to see it first with a new "Want It" application on Facebook.

Facebook's 955 million global fans can vote for an advance screening in their city by clicking on the "Want It" button on the film's fan page at http://www.Facebook.com/ParanormalActivity.

"Want It" is a dynamic application utilizing Facebook's open graph technology that gives fans the opportunity to vote to bring the franchise to their city and leverage their social networks to ensure they are one of the top 25 winning locations. The application recognizes a fan's geo-location according to their Facebook profile and automatically registers a vote to bring the film to their city first. Votes will be shared on a fan's page and automatically posted to the Facebook newsfeed to rally their peers to bring the film to their city first too.

The application feeds individual votes into a dynamic leader board that shows the ranking of every city in real time. Audiences can track the top cities as well as the ranking of their own city as well as push out reminders encouraging friends to vote. "Want It" brings an unprecedented level of interactivity for fans in determining screenings of the movie.

"There's a very special connection between 'PARANORMAL ACTIVITY' and Facebook," said Matt Jacobson, head of market development at Facebook. "Four years after the initial success of the franchise and the establishment of a passionate fan community, we're excited to see continued iteration on a franchise that was born on Facebook. Paramount is using both the Facebook platform and media to drive awareness of the film, three months out, and we will continue to drive awareness and intent at scale as we approach opening weekend in October."

"The success of 'PARANORMAL ACTIVITY' began with the fans who have championed the movie franchise from the very beginning through social media," said Amy Powell, Executive Vice President of Interactive Marketing. "Now we're creating an even more dynamic experience among the film's community of fans and for the first time, we're giving them an opportunity to go head-to-head on Facebook with fans around the world to determine the 25 cities who get to see 'PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4' before it opens."

Fans can also vote at the film's website, http://www.ParanormalMovie.com.

The 25 cities that receive the most votes will win a free screening of the eagerly awaited film before it hits theaters October 19, 2012.

"PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4" is directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.

Paranormal Activity 4 Wins the Weekend Box Office

by ShockTillYouDrop

October 21, 2012

As expected, Paranormal Activity 4 (review) came in at number one at the box office, proving that the franchise still has legs. It did, however, open much lower than its predecessors, grossing an estimated $30.2 million over three days. Its predecessor, Paranormal Activity 3, took in $52.5 million during its opening and, before that, Paranormal Activity 2 grossed $40.6 million. Perhaps the even numbered entries are cursed? (Update: Let's hope so, because Paramount have already announced that Paranormal Activity 5 will be out in October 2013.)

Meanwhile, the other Blumhouse Production, Sinister, collected an additional $9 million bringing that film's total to $31.9 million.
