My hopes are that Disney no goes back "into the vaults" as it were and FINALLY releases the original trilogy in its original form but cleaned up and remastered for Blu Ray!
I see both the good and bad in this deal, so Im going to sit back and wait to see how the dust settles before chiming in with any other opinions.

My hope is that Disney goes "back into the vaults" and reissues the Star Wars Holiday Special on BluRay. Mmmm... Bea Arthur.......

I think that the most exciting potential of this deal for me is the possibility of a full-fledged Star Wars theme park, not just a ride or attraction in an otherwise Disney park. Imagine entering the park through Mos Eisley and going from world to world via a Star Tours like simulator... (...and that Holiday Special Blu-Ray packed with extras! )

Yeah, not a great a fan of large scale media consolidation but that horse is already out of the barn. That just seems like a tired , old fight now. Star Wars in no longer just a little thing for our generation to have for our own. It will go on for future youngsters, but I do wonder if the creative well will run dry. In the hands of talented writers and directors with new ideas, I say it won't.
I look forward to this, and if it renews my love for the Star Wars I loved as a kid, all the better. I actually liked Phantom Menace the best out of all the prequels, warts and all, and Clone Wars is high quality entertainment but its' definitely its own "thing"...It's not something I've fallen in love with. Nothing has that magic of those first 3 movies.
I'd love to see Mark Hamill in Episode 7. What a wonderful segue into the next trilogy that would be.

That video on the AFi front page where George Lucas mentions the books and comics...I'm taking that as a positive comment. He pretty much led credence and weight to the already established Expanded Universe and didn't outright throw it away in light of the recent announcements. That is awesome news.

Haha nice. Seriously though I have seen episode one but I was not impressed.
I'm also surprised that people are so excited for more of them. I got the feeling episodes 1-3 were not well received.

Episodes 1-3 were not well received by fans of the original trilogy but they are loved by the generation they were made for - the kids.

Oh even some kids looked at it like it was crazy once the razzle dazzle fight scenes ended. I still say if you were over 13 and thought those were good movies... just wow... Even from a non-fanboy perspective they were awful. Big G is a fantastic Director... a genius in business... but when it comes to writing stories, dialog and character names... he just falls so short

The Original Trilogy Uncut getting a Blu-Ray release is a swell idea and so is seeing The Star Wars Holiday Special on DVD. Maybe Disney could also release series sets for Ewoks and Droids and possibly put both long out of print live-action Ewok movies back on DVD.

The New Star Wars Trilogy Will Be an Original Storyby SuperHeroHypeOctober 31, 2012 It was announced yesterday that Disney has bought Lucasfilm and plans on creating an all new Star Wars trilogy with Episode VII hitting theaters in 2015, followed by a new movie every other year. Once this was announced and we all calmed down a little, the typical fan fare of who would direct the new films, who would star in them, and what they would be about began. Many fans began to speculate that the new series would be an adaptation of Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn Trilogy," a series of novels considered canon by the people at Lucasfilm; however, it doesn't seem that way. E! Online has learned from a source at Lucasfilm that the new films won't be an adaptation of the books. Their source says "it's an original story."There's still hope though fellow Star Wars fans, as Disney plans on using all forms of media for their newly acquired purchase. As George Lucas said himself in the press release, "Disney's reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products."What do you think the new trilogy will be about?

Canon is whatever Lucasfilm says is canon at a particular time. Saves us the trouble of going through another "only what Lucas was directly involved in is canon," or "only movies are canon," or "canon is whatever I say is canon!" arguments.
