Thanks for the round-up!
People need to stop asking for Doomsday and Granny Goodness in the sub. They're really hard-line about that every time.
My idea has been dismissed before, but I continue to assert that Mattel can make "nice things" and put them up as a Presale option if they wanted to. It will cost more but they can do it. Like Kickstarter. Like what they're experimenting with now.
Their DC customer "baseline" explanation aside, Castle Grayskull proves they can and will do it. YJ 2-pack proves they can and will do it. The Legion Of Super-Heroes 12-pack proves that DC Fans will pay a lot for nice things. If Mattel makes nice things (cough, Superpowers set cough) people will pay a little extra for the lower production run (my opinion, maybe I'm wrong?).
I know some feel there's nothing left to do for the DC Universe, they've already done all the good stuff. And would I pay $60 or more for a Doomsday or Granny Goodness?....I'm not sure. But SOME PEOPLE must be paying $80 for a giant, gorgeous DCC Darkseid. And that figure is quite a sight to behold, I've seen it.
The Critical Mess answers show they're not really thinking about it, except for maybe a batmobile. It's still, "We put some DC toy on the site and you didn't buy it, so no, we're not going to make this DC toy" I just have to point to the Castle, The 12-pack and the fact that DC is a brand that's still big and it's their license they're paying for. There's still DC fans out there that want nice things. And they sure as heck aren't in the toy aisles right now.

As a DC comics only collector my entire POV is that the license should not be renewed when it's up. The Four Horsemen have been amazing but Mattel has simply never been a boys toy company when it's non-hot wheels and they show no sign of changing that now. Let Hasbro completely take over the toy world or put a proper business plan for dc collectibles in place.

The DCUC line had gone thru 21 waves, with multiple other lines (Green Lantern Classics for example), two-packs, a 12-pack, etc. What's going on with the line now is out of their control for the most part and even if Hasbro would take over things, they'd have to deal with DC just the same. But nonetheless, we're still getting figures. The license also includes Imaginext, Hero World, Little People, Hot Wheels, etc. Not to mention the DC Unlimited & Batman Unlimited figures at retail. A heck of a lot of DC product if you ask me.
