The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly (via ShockTillYouDrop.com) has revealed a new image from Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim in anticipation of the film's panel at Comic-Con next week. The pic reveals "Sons of Anarchy's" Charlie Hunnam and actress Rinko Kikuchi in some pretty bad-ass suits.
In the July 12, 2013 release, legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, start rising from the sea and begin a war that would takes millions of lives and consumes humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Idris Elba, Max Martini, Rob Kazinsky, Clifton Collins Jr. and Diego Klattenhoff also star.

Variety is reporting that Guillermo del Toro's new film Pacific Rim will be post-converted to 3D, even though Del Toro himself was resistant to the idea. As they point out, the film does have all the makings of what people want to see in a 3D film - robots, monsters, robots fighting monsters, and a plot involving saving the world.
The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day and is set to be released on July 12, 2013.

BOOOOOOOOOO.
Either build it from the ground up 3D or don't do it at all. I'm sick of all this post converted crap and I won't pay to see it.
Let me preface this by saying I don't like 3D, nor will I watch this movie, or anything else in 3D if I can help it.
With that said, I sat through a panel with Dennis Muren and John Knoll at Star Wars Celebration 6 all about 3D conversion and what they're doing with the Star Wars movie and I came away very impressed. They walked us through the whole process, all the additional rendering and animation that needs to completed to create the depth, and everything else that must be done to convert a 2D movie into 3D. The Star Wars movies were clearly converted well and with care in all the demos I saw.
There absolutely has been a lot of crap 3D conversions over the last few years but there are people who do it well. I doubt Guillermo del Toro would tolerate a bad conversion.

Even though the movie is being converted to 3D, there will most likely still be a 2D release of the movie as is the case with pretty much every other movie out there currently.
I'm still planning on going to see the film, but will choose the 2D version where available.
Pacific Rim will be front and center at the Legendary Entertainment booth during New York Comic-Con and, today, a new propaganda poster was revealed.
Director Guillermo del Toro will headline the activities when he signs the exclusive piece of art at the Legendary booth on Friday, October 12 at 2 pm.
The art will also be unveiled at the Legendary panel on Friday, October 12 at 5:15 pm. The art was created by Spanish artist Raúl Monge (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy 2), who serves as a Concept Artist for the Pacific Rim movie.
"Raúl is one of my top concept designers. The idea with this particular piece was to emulate an old WWII propaganda poster/flyer that went along with the world we were creating,” said del Toro. “It symbolizes rationing - voluntary work force, no guts, no glory kind of heroism."
In other Pacific Rim activities, del Toro is also announcing a Pacific Rim graphic novel that will serve as a prequel to the upcoming film. A must-read for anyone who wants to see the movie, the graphic novel will serve as a prequel, providing important details on the characters and the lead up to the story arc of the movie. Written by the film’s writer Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans), the graphic novel is written in three distinct parts – covering the in-world history from the first attack up to just before the movie, Additionally, the Legendary booth will, once again, be home to the pilot costumes worn by Charlie Hunnam and the female Russian pilot in the film.

The viral marketing for Pacific Rim began back in November of 2012, when the official website for the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was launched. It has slowed down since then, but to remind you the website is still out there, Warner Bros. has released a recruiting poster for the PPDC. Check it out below.
