Whoever designed the hood on that thing must have confused Billy with a conehead.

Haha beat me to it. That hood is AWFUL. It would have to work very hard to get up to just being bad. Wow that's terrible...

It's cool, guys, the hood is removable.
Too bad the rest of the figure isn't. What an easy pass.

I think Shazam looks OK. It doesn't surprise me we're getting a "New 52" figure though. Although, I think this figure would do fine at retail. Al least it doesn't sound like there's any con-only exclusive stuff with it, so I can just order it off Matty when it goes on sale instead of having to ebay it.

This is one of those figures that I'd pick up if I had the chance, but I'm not excited by this figure. Put me in the pass column. For now.

I am VERY concerned about this DC Signature Series "New 52" Shazam. I really hope this is just a "one-off" and not an indication that the DC Signature Series is going "New 52". The Signature Series is really the last bastion of proper DC Universe figures. I hope they announce something of the 2014 line-up at ComiCon, because the degree to which it goes "New 52" will depend very much on whether I renew my subscription. Like I said, this needs to be a one-off for the line. Leave the "New 52" at retail and let the Signature Series carry on where DCUC left off.

Oh my God, what a fail. Two years in a row now of DCUC SDCC misery. Does anybody want New 52 figures? Anyone? Of all the fan-requested characters...Granny Goodness...Doomsday...THIS is what we get?

Absolutely. Granny should have been the exclusive.

I wonder if this figure was "suggested" by DC/Warner Bros. as the exclusive. I've heard rumors of an upcoming Shazam on-going comic, so this would be good cross-promotion in their eyes. I like to think Scott is more in-touch with his customers than to offer a re-do as the SDCC exclusive.
Also, I'm not reading too much into the "Club IE" connection myself. I think it's meant more as a "fits into that style" type of thing. I don't think it means the sub is now open to "New 52" figures.

It is just sad for many reasons
#1 it seems like a way for Mattel to charge like double retail cost a on figure that honestly should have been retail. I mean there is some new tooling but not nearly enough to justify him being the SDCC exclusive.
#2 missed opportunity to add Billy Batson to our collections, heck I would have bought it JUST for Billy Batson.
# 3 the hood looked horrible!
#4 I think this will hurt DCIE 2013 sub sales... big time. People are getting fed up with Mattel not listening.
And my guess is if they announce any 2014 characters Ice will be the first one.....

I think it looks pretty nice...
...but...
...it's a completely misguided attempt at pleasing the online crowd who are supporting Club Infinite Earths. If this item had to be a con exclusive (which it didn't), it should be in DC Unlimited packaging. I can only hope that they're saving someone like Doomsday or Granny Goodness as the exclusive figure for the 2014 sub.
And if this decision was actually arrived at by Mattel themselves and not influenced by the brass at DC, I'm not optimistic about a 2014 sub. It's just hard not to notice how sad the DC offerings have become overall since the New 52 happened. You will not tell me that this is a coincidence.

Such an easy pass for me, also I've always hated the Rock people, so I'll be skipping the Mattel line all together this year. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that the Hasbro exclusive for joe/transformers is another BS joe vehicle in transformers deco. This way I skip SDCC all together. YAY!
P.S. Not that the trans/joe thing isn't a cool idea but I'd pay double if the vehicle actually turned into the robot it was supposed to be.

Here's hoping that the Club Infinite Earths exclusive figure is Granny Goodness. Think that would guarantee good sales for the sub?

Swing and a miss! Matty's still batting zero in the SDCC department this year. Which means Hasbro's probably gonna be awesome.
