I'm looking to make a Fortress for JLU scale figures. I saw someone made one out of the old Toybiz Batcave (Link maybe?) but I'm looking to do something a little different.
With so many shards of Kryptonite in the new Superman Returns line, anyone have any suggestions on building a Fortress?
Seems like a neat project, maybe with some help I can get it started and post the final product here.

I'm wondering if you could take maybe an existing playset (or maybe even a nice sized box?) and just add it tons of wooden dowel rods. I see them at craft stores all the time. Usually they're round, but if you look where they keep the balsa wood, they'll have squared-versions.
Just glue a *ton* of those in place, at random angles, leaving space for platforms, etc.
Once done, you could prime and spray the whole thing with a texturized spray paint to help simulate the snow, and then paint it a bluish white?
Hope this helps... I'd love to see how it turns out.

That's a great idea. Anyone have any knowledge on how out of scale those "The Batman" playsets are? Or perhaps another playset that would be a good starting base for the Fortress?
I'll probably use Iron-Cow's plans to some extent but I need a good starter.

Hmmmmm
What do you have around to start with?
Personally, I might start off with some large hunks of styrofoam. I've still got stuff sitting around from when I first set up this PC like a year ago.
You could probably stack and shape those into some platforms if you've got enough.
I like Matt's suggestion about the squared off bits of wood too.
hope it works out man.
good luck!

Styrofoam is a good idea I hadn't thought of yet either. I don't really have anything set for the base yet.
Which is why I was curious about current playsets that might be good to use. I wouldn't mind plunking down $15-20 for one if it would be a good starter.
I do appreciate the help, I plan to get this project started this weekend.

Actually, I'd avoid styrofoam, unless you're using it only as a base and then covering it over with a modelling paste of some sort. Styrofoam can dissolve when spraypainted, plus it's an extremely fragile material. Last thing you'd want is to sculpt a beautiful playset, and then have it crumble on you.
I'd opt for maybe foamcore instead? Still not the most archival material, but it'd be good as a starting off point.

well.... I think you could still use styrofoam? You would just need to cover it with a plaster or some other material to provide a protective shell covering. Which, you'd probably want to do anyway, since the styrofoam texture would be a pain to paint. But still, I'd avoid it personally. Can't wait to see what you come up with! Matt aka Iron-Cow

Those batman sets were marked down crazily at KB, they would work well seeing that they had JLU figs standing on it in the store display...

I do appreciate the help, I plan to get this project started this weekend. Awsome, i have been wondering about making a fotress of solitude playset myself. Casimir has done a great one using and old batcave. I might try using some boxes like a few people sugested. I have so many junk boxes that i save for whatever reason, and this seems like a pretty cool project to try. GOod luck to ya, can't wait to see pictures!

Here's the one I made from a ToyBiz Batcave. This was done ages ago. Full recipe at Inanimate Objects. (See the banner below.) C.
