I was gushing about how great my new two disc Forbidden Planet DVD is, and how hot Anne Francis is in that movie, and a friend told me she was the star of a 60s detective show called Honey West. Anyone here seen that? Doesn't look like it's available on DVD in the States (there were only 30 eps). Oh man was she easy on the eyes.

Sounds like a Bond girl. I only know her from Forbidden Planet--haven't seen that series before either. Was it British?

Apparently it only ran for a single season on ABC, though Francis won a Golden Globe for her performance on the show...

Interesting--wonder if they were trying to do an Emma Peel/Avengers kinda thing?

I don't know anything at all about the show, but I do know that there was a (very bad/cheap) fashion doll released while it was on the air.

See, Peter, there are advantages to being an old fart!

Oh yea, Honey West and her pet ocelot were hot as hell. It was around the time of the Avengers coming to the states and "spy" was all the rage.

Honey was a private detective who wore tight sweaters and tighter slacks and had pouty lips and made 14 year old boys think naughty thoughts...

Here's the Ann Francis page on imdb:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004282/

She actually had quite a career. She guest-starred on a whole slew of TV shows in the 60's and 70's and appeared in movies with Glenn Ford, Spencer Tracy and Sydney Poitier in the 50's.

Mike
(And if that picture on imbd is current, she's still a babe!)

Yeah, for seventy something she's a grand-MILF.

Glenn, was the show any good? I forgot how hot she was until the New Year's Twilight Zone marathon on Sci-Fi and my rewatching of Forbidden Planet two nights ago. Oh man.

Yes, it was actually a good show. I don't know why it wasn't renewed for another season, because it seemed that everybody was watching it.

The stories were not as silly as The Avengers and the entire cast was really professional.

It had a great tag-line, too.

"Honey West, Private Eye-ful!"

Honey West spun off of the original Burke's Law show. Anne did a cameo on the 90's Burke's Law as the character Honey Best.

She didn't survive in the ratings, airing opposite Gomer Pyle.

Side note toy trivia: The HW fashion doll was by A. C. Gilbert, who did the Man from Uncle and James Bond figures. A. C. Gilbert was America's oldest toy company (they marketed the original Erector sets), but was struggling in the 1960s. A defect in their 1966 Goldfinger slot-car set lead to massive returns during the Christmas season. Gilbert went under the following year, although Gabriel picked up the name and used it into the seventies.
