This might be better better described as episode 036.5… but for consistency’s sake we will call it 037.   This is a Lenzi-less episode.  It’s really just a mini-episode.  We only had about a 36 hour window when Abby and I were back in LA between our wedding and our honeymoon and that just happened to fall on Jason and his wife’s one year wedding anniversary.  We ask our significant others to put up with a lot just to be with us… missing an anniversary is NOT one of them.   I had one more interview from Comic Con 2012 to share with you so that is the episode.   This interview is with Andy from Titan Merchandise.  They have a GREAT line up of busts from licenses like Star Trek, hammer Horror and Doctor Who.

You can see AFi’s coverage of their booth here.   And you can listen to the interview below!

As mentioned, there will NOT be a new episode next week, but we will pick back up in September with all the geek chat that you have come to love!

As we mentioned last week Daniel is now a married man and he and his new bride are off on their honeymoon in an undisclosed location.  So, this week’s episode features another interview conducted a few weeks back at San Diego Comic Con International 2012. This interview is with John Balen, Director of Toys for Disney Store and is conducted by Daniel and Jason Geyer of AFi.

It’s a bit of a shorter episode, but it’s all new!

Daniel has already left for his wedding and Jason is working on a new production, but they still managed to eek out a new episode of the Geek Shall Inherit podcast!  The original plan for this episode was to have it be half banter and then include another of our SDCC 2012 interviews, but we had so much to cover we’ll bump the interview to another episode. We finally get around to having our full, spoiler-filled discussion about “The Dark Knight Rises”, but we again do it at the end of the episode and give you a chance to stop listening before anything is ruined for you.  We both agree that everyone should go into this movie as spoiler protected as possible and just let this epic film wash over you.

We have a couple of great new reviews on iTunes and if you have an ios device there’s one more way to listen to the GSi podcast each week!

Also in the episode we discuss:

  • Warehouse 13 and The Lost Room
  • New Hasbro Marvel Universe 2-packs
  • Jason visits ‘Blast from the Past’ and now finds himself in a new documentary.
  • Daniel runs into actor and Universal Monster collector Daniel Roebuck
  • The Hobbit will now split into 3 movies
  • WB Tones down “Beware The Batman”
  • Dark Knight Rises talk with spoilers.
    All that and much more!

I’m not quite sure how to describe this episode… this would be our second installment of “GSi After Dark” as it was recorded at night and there may have been some alcohol involved.   As you were warned on the GSI facebook page this week, we recoded this episode at my bachelor party over the weekend.   My master plan was at some point during the evening we would all sit down and have a giant “round table” with all of the guests, as it was a veritable “Who’s Who” of the toy industry.  However we were having such a good time, things never really settled down so we were reduced to doing a few quick interviews in a parking lot of a karaoke dive in Burbank after both Scott Neitlich of Mattel and Jesse Falcon of Marvel/Disney each serenaded me.  So… it’s a bit different.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you!  Cheers!

In this episode we talk about:

  • The Dark Knight Rises – just some over-arcing impressions – it’s a SPOILER FREE discussion.
  • The new ‘Man of Steel’ trailer
  • Jesse Falcon fills us in on some of his upcoming improv shows at the Los Angeles UCB.
  • Scott Neitlich makes a pitch for fans to pick up one (or two or THREE) of the 2013 MattyCollector subs either the Club Eternia Masters of the Universe sub, the DC Club Infinite Earths Signature Collection sub or the Club Black Freighter Watchmen  sub.   You can pick up your own sub here at MattyCollector.com.
  • I interview my brother Russell and talk to him about how the ‘Geek Shall Inheirt’ theme song came together.
  • We wrap up this episode with one of the Comic Con interviews from earlier this month when myself and AFi’s Jason Geyer had the opportunity to interview the Hasbro Marvel team.

We’re back from Comic Con, it was an amazing time, we only got to see a small fraction of it, and we are already ready for next year.  It’s a bittersweet week for fandom as we have all been waiting with baited breath for “The Dark Knight Rises” to be released, but it’s impossible to fully enjoy it in the wake of the terrible tragedy of the shootings in Colorado.   We don’t yet cover our thoughts on the film as Jason has seen the movie but Daniel has not yet.

The banter part of this episode is a little shorter than our usual episodes, but then it is followed up with one of the interviews from SDCC 2012.

In this episode we cover:

  • The new “old school” comic con coming to San Diego  – San Diego Comic Fest coming October 19-20th.
  • We reminisce about the days of iron-ons.
  • The rundown of what we got from comic con.
  • The new TMNT product.
  • We discuss the over all Nolan Batman trilogy, but not “The Dark Knight Rises” specifically.  So no spoilers this week!
  • Damages returns to Directv
  • It’s time to rally and get your Mattel Subscriptions at Mattycollector.com!  All the subs are in jeopardy, so if you want figures and are on the fence NOW is the time to get on board!
  • Interview from SDCC 2012 with Nicolas of Makerbot.
